Best Draining Courses

Hey Guys,

I live in Seattle and have run into a bit of a conundrum when it comes to golf. Drainage. Jackson and Jefferson are both sloppy mud pits once the rainy season hits. I haven't played West Seattle in the winter but I'm assuming it's more of the same. Given the amount of rain we've had in the past week and will be getting for the next week or so I'm wondering what are your best draining public courses?

Jefferson usually drains very well in the Winter, especially in the front 9. This year they punched the fairway after the Summer drought, with less grass in the fairway, muddy condition prevailed. Disliked it since they shortened the #11. With 5 par 3 already existing, now the shortened #11 made this golf course just little better than the executive variety.
Nothing drains well with the rain we had had this year; 3 times the normal volume for the month of December for the first 8 days and more to come........

Learn to play with tee shots spin back after popped out of the soft fairway turf.... learn to play carried distance.... or fly South to the Palm Spring area to cure your golfing bug.

Wait.... California and Arizona also had unseasonable heavy rain volume. One of my friend just got back from a wedding in Mexico, and they had been rained on half the days they were down that way.

So, pack it up to wait for the June 2016.

I don't know about other people on this forum, but if I have to wait until June of 2016 to play a round of golf I will probably go insane.

Anyone with a little more insight thank wkou3?

How close are you looking?

I would just go play The Home Course, honestly.

Thanks! I played there last winter a few times and that one definitely came to mind. I was looking to keep it within an hour and a half one way.

Chambers drains really well-it's just too expensive. Trophy Lake also drain nicely and you can get an all winter card for 250$ there I believe. Steer clear of echo falls. I played there in July and it was soaked. The pro shop staff told me the course sits on some weird clay and doesn't drain properly.

Yeah, I only play Echo Falls once a year for their 19th hole. I love betting on people hitting that GIR. Good to know about Trophy Lake. I played that course just after I started playing on full courses and it ruined me. I've been eyeing the day when I can exact my revenge.

Yes, it's expensive ($100 winter rates), but Chambers drains incredibly well. I played there on Sunday and the course is in great shape. The Home Course also drains very well. I live walking distance to West Seattle and rarely play there in the winter due to the mud.

Yes, I think will this most recent round of frost and rain the muni's will be soppy mud pits. I do think a round at Chambers will be a nice reprieve from the winter doldrums.

I'll second the recommendation of the Home Course. I played there on January 1st. Cold as heck, but what a great day and no mud.

Can't beat the home course but Maplewood is a nice surprise in the winter. Cheap, centrally located and not too busy for a muni. It actually drains really well and with no role out the yardages seem to be just right for hitting every club in the bag in the off-season.

Solid report! Thanks for the insight. I'm looking to get down to Maplewood after my GF leaves for Canada. Until then i have to keep the rounds a little closer to Seattle Proper.
