Planning a trip this summer to tackle the RCD champ course

 

Looking to add 4 or 5 more courses to trip (links)

 

Portmarnock and portmarnock hotel were places I thought highly of but I've now heard some moderate reviews , what's the deal with these? I was under the impression they were awesome and they look good in pictures

 

Was considering the island and royal Dublin too

 

Must be east coast

 

Any thoughts?

Consider moving north after RCD and go to Royal Portrush and Portstewart !

I stayed a few nights at the Portmarnock Hotel & Links and played both courses. Both courses were entertaining and in great shape, in late September. The Championship course is great, the clubhouse is awesome, steeped in tradition......straight out of a history book.....the staff was a little stuffy, although could be expected with a place like this. It was a great experience. The drive out to the course is neat too....on a peninsula.

Portmarnock Links has recently changed ownership with more investment of the way. Worth a visit.

Portmornock Old Course as the previous entry mentions is a little stiffer but with a history of Irish Opens, Walker Cups, British Amatuer Opens, Jacques Leguses Trophies its definitely got the pedegree and the course.

As a member of The Island GC, I'd highly recomend it. Much more like a West Coast course with towering sand dunes and a very varied sent of holes. Very relaxed and friendly clubhouse.

Other links courses north of Dublin include Co Louth (Baltray) and Seapoint. South of Dublin is The European.

RCD is the undoubted no1 course in Ireland but there is alot of quality links on the East Coast of Ireland. Aaccording to the 2015 Golf Digest List you also have Portmornock (2), European (8) Co Louth (10) The Island(13) Royal Dublin (27) Portmarnock Hotel & Links (26) & Seapoint (46)
