Contenders Needed - Golf Trip to Michigan

Recommended Posts

I am designing a buddies trip to Michigan for next September. Looking for advice from some veterans of the Michigan area or people who have done this trip before.

First off, we are looking at mid-September for the trip date - is the weather okay up there then? Does it get a lot worse in beginning of October?

Second, here is the planned course list (right now in order of how we would play). They are all public (as far as I know). This would be the max as far as rounds, so anything added would cause something on the list to be dropped. Is there any course you would substitute out for one not on there? Is one Treetops course way better than the rest? Please feel free to send any advice or something I missed. Everyone going is a pretty decent player so we aren't too worried about playing hard courses. I attached a pic to show the proposed route so we can stray too far from that as far as travel. Thank you!

Fall golf in Michigan is great. Mid September should be nice.

A nice set of courses. Here would be a few changes I would suggest:

Eagle Eye Golf Course (Bath)

TullymoreI

Arcadia Bluffs

Bear Course at Grand Traverse Change to Locenheath

Forest Dunes - Play 36

Treetops - Smith Signature I like the signature, but I think Otsego Tribute is better. My favorite course in Gaylord is Michaywe Pines, but they are all pretty close. Black Forest is also an option - great tee to green, but the greens are a little crazy.

Bay Harbor (Links/Quarry)

Belvedere Change to Kingsley Club. It is Private, but they accept limited public play. Play 36

Black Lake

Marquette - Greyfalls

Could post this in "all things MI golf" thread to make sure the OG's see this, courses were just being discussed with another out of stater. First look I'd drop treetops for Kingsley club, a member in the above mentioned thread would probably graciously get you guys a tee time if you ask nice!

Awesome! I'm pricing this out for a few people. Do you happen to remember the rates for LochenHeath and Kingsley? I read somewhere you need to take a caddy at Kingsley? Thank you again for any info!!

I played Lochenheath as part of a package, so not totally sure. I want to say right around $100.

As for Kingsley, unaccompanied guest is similar to Lochenheath last time I played it, but that may have changed in a the last few years. They do require a forecaddie and I recommend having one as well.

Looks like you have some good suggestions already, but here is a thread I started after completing a similar trip with my group last year...

We had an absolute blast and loved the courses. Feel free to send any questions my way...I would be happy to give you any feedback from my experience.

Cheers and happy planning!

This is perfect IMO. My family has a place in Gaylord and I agree, IMO The Tribute is my favorite course in the Gaylord area. Really fun layout. Nothing to crazy on the greens and just a fun risk/reward layout to play.

Lochenheath is fantastic. I thought the course was very difficult, especially your first time playing it, but, it was in fantastic condition we played it and was a very good course.

I haven't played Kingsley yet but I haven't heard someone who doesn't rave about the place after playing it.

Just north of Milwaukee is this little resort with a few kinda nice courses. Whistling Straights, Irish Turn, Blackwolf Run....

Lol - is it bad that I have already start planning this trip as well? Knocking the ones out you mentioned along with Sweetwater, Timberstone, and Marquette. One of the more under-appreciated regions for golf

You have picked the best of the best in my opinion. Only one I would add if you have the time is "The Tribute" in Gaylord. Almost next door to Treetops
