What is it about Cameron putters that make them so desirable?

Ever since I got my first Scotty Cameron putter I have become a big fan to the exclusion of the other many fine putters out there...

 

Why is that? Even though I have 2 other very fine putters I never feel like playing them in a round...

 

I always find myself bringing my Newport 2..For me it's the feel of putting the ball with this fine putter...

 

I find myself comparing every putter I pick up these days to my Newport 2 and so far nothing comes close...

 

Scotty is doing something right I guess...and the premium you pay for his putters is most definitely worth it to me...

 

Any thoughts?

Just try a GSS putter, you never will go back to your Newport 2. Of course the GSS is a cameron as well:)

I feel the same way about a Bettinardi. Many Camerons have come along to take over--but Bettinardi remains as the master of precision.

Actually the Newport 2 I have...the Studio Style has the GSS (German Stainless Steel) insert which I like..

I'd say the craftsmanship and cool finishes and stamps Scotty designs into his putters. Add one of a kind tour putters to the mix and you have a very nice combination. That said, I haven't found one I really like...except the Red X.

I always said I would never spend the money on one, but now that I have, I'd have to say I like it. Everything from the milling on the face, the balance, and the way it rolls the ball. I have the 2007 Circa '62 #2 btw..

 

That being said, I also really like the way the Ping G5i rolls the ball, and the same goes for all the YES! putters I've tried.

 

I really think that Cameron makes great putters, but there are others that roll the ball VERY well.

 

It's always going to come down to preference.

Not to say that Scotty Cameron doesn't make good putters, because he does, but a lot of the "desirability" comes from clever marketing. From circle-t one-offs to limited edition models & headcovers, he has pretty much created his own hype. As EdmontonGolfer stated, there are a lot of other good putters out there, but Scotty has created his own 'mystique' by marketing his putters to the point where they become collectibles.

There is a local golf shop located close to where I live and when I was there the other day I noticed a few second hand Camerons...the owner noticed me and walked over and said that as soon they come in they are snatched up..

I was fortunate enough to play a GSS Nwpt 2 for 36 holes, with a good friend. It was nice, but not the "END ALL" that is perceived by so many.

I'll have to just add that I think it is a "perceived prestige" that keeps Cameron putters at the front. He has made some incredible putters, but I feel like people buy his production stuff, now, for the thought of owning a Cameron.

Just my opinion, and remember, I am not knocking Scotty, just giving an opinion of public perception. Heck, I have three Cammies on the wall, right now.

I may get flamed for this, but I can probably take it.
