hi, i'm james, i'm 24

 

i used to play competetive junior golf in cyprus and the uk from the ages of about 13-16

i then gave up the game for whatever reason i dont even remember, being rebellious i suppose

 

i just moved from england to houston, tx last year and i have taken up the game again about 2 months ago, been hitting balls at the nearby range 2-3 times a week and i'm REALLY back into golf, its on my brain 24/7!

so if anyone can recommend a good golf course i should check out in the northwest area, that isnt ridiculously expensive, let me know!

Anyways, welcome to houston and golfwrx. As for courses in the NW area of Houston, cypresswood has 3 18's, Creek, Cypress, Tradition(rated easiest to 'hardest'). Houston National is a links style course, Blackhorse has 2 18's, Longwood, those are the ones i can think of at this time.

 

Hope this link helps with the courses around Houston, albeit private/public/munis.

the rain was definitely annoying yesterday, all i wanted to do all day was go hit some balls

so in the afternoon when it stopped raining and the sun came out a little i got straight in the car up to the range to find it was closed, i drove a little bit further out to a different one i'd never been too before but drive past everyday on my way to work but to my surprise when i got there, its only 250 yards long!

so wasnt able to hit my new nike sq, oh well, i got some much needed time working with my irons/hybrids instead

I forgot to add, Bear Creek also has 3 18's, it's an easier set of tracts. They have a PDP program which includes longwood, which gaines you access to unlimited range for 30/month, then if you play in the afternoons, it's the cost of the cart, which is like 15. It's located off of Hwy 6 and Clay Rd.

I've always liked Cypresswood on my trips down there. Blackhorse was another good track as well.

i checked out the PDP program on cypresswood's website and it definitely seems like a really good deal

i cant seem to find a website for bear creek but if the deal is as you say it is, it should be about the same as the cypresswood one, which is neat. just a question of finding out which is closest to where i live now! :(

As for cypresswood, they do have a full membership plan depending on how much golf you tend to play.

believe me i'd play everyday if i could, but unfortunately my paycheck would barely cover the membership fees. maybe one day!

I heard many great things about how nice Bear Creek used to be, but honestly, after I played it about 6 months ago, I would never go back. The greens and fairways were in terrible shape. Maybe it has gotten better since. Green fees are cheap.

 

You can also check out Tour 18 by the airport (also a palmergolf.com course). They copied 18 of the more memorable PGA holes, including Sawgrass 17, and it makes you feel like you're on tour. Check out PGA18.com, to get other discounted tee times around town. My favorite course right now is Memorial Park, which is located inside the 610 loop. It probably won't take you but 20 minutes to get there. Quality golf, walkable, and only $37 on weekends.

 

Cinco Ranch (18 holes) is another course that is nice in NW Houston. There's also River Ridge (27 holes) out west about 15 miles.
