Reynolds Plantation

We have a group of guys going to play here in early August. We will play Thursday, Friday, Saturday. This will be our 4 year doing a golf trip. We started out of college and are trying to get progressively more expensive as we go. We have finally exhausted all the locations where we own a house and have free lodging.

Anyway, it looks like there are 6 courses. Any recs on which ones are best or other things to do while there? Looks like a really cool spot.

Been to several corporate retreats there, the golf is great. My favorite is Cuscowilla, which is a Crenshaw/Coore layout. Really enjoyed the Nicklaus course, believe it is called Great Waters, just a fun and scenic layout.

Unless something just changed, Cuscowilla is not part of Reynolds. They are nearby, but Cuscowilla is its own private entity...but a great course. Having said that, the actual Reynolds courses I would play would be Great Waters, National and Oconee. Creek Club is reserved for members only and the other 2 courses are just ok. Play the 3 I listed and you will be happy. Outside of golf the only cool things to do would be something on the lake, like rent a boat or go fishing. Reynolds is basically in the middle of nowhere, but a great get-away. Have fun.

The landing is a good course also. The plantation course is about to be finished w a multimillion $$ Reno. It's gonna be real good. You can't go wrong with any of the RP courses though.

As for things to do. Not a lot of options. Gabby's restaurant at the Ritz is great. It's on the lake (open air).

Play 36 per day and grab dinner.

Your golf will be great, but nothing else to do except eat and drink.

Best food in the area is Silver Moon. Go there at least once. But be aware there is no sign for the restaurant. If you can find your way into Cuscowilla do it. Otherwise Great Waters, National are your best bets. Creek Club is goofy golf that people either love or hate. The courses are all pretty good. Be aware that if you are staying at the Ritz or in that area that Great Waters is a decent drive away. Everything else is pretty close. GW and Cuscowilla are near each other.

Get a boat one afternoon and check out the lake. See if you can find the missing head out there though.

Great! Thanks for the advice guys. My buddy is the head tennis pro at a local club and is going to see if the golf pro can get us on at cuscowilla. Otherwise we will look forward to the other courses.

Be careful adding the Plantation to Reynolds. They dropped the Plantation and just call it Reynolds Lake Oconee. Apparently some people have a negative connotation to the term Plantation. Geez, I can't imagine why.

Don't expect Great Waters to be in great shape this year. That course was in such bad shape from the wet winter they had to have an emergency, unplanned over seeding just to make sure they had some grass. The over seeding won't help things when the Bermuda starts to comeback. I'd be sure to check back on GW closer to your trip date.

Make sure to stop by the new Tavern at National. It's the best 19th hole setup at the lake.
