Help me get a new shaft for my driver

Hi,

 

I am Matt, I am new here. I found this forum while looking around the internet in my search for a new shaft for my driver.

 

I think the best thing for me to do would be to get my current driver reshafted. Does anyone know of a good local place (I live in Sudbury, MA, 20 miles west of boston, near Natick, Marlborough, Framingham) I can go and try out different shafts?

 

Also, if you have any recommendations on what shafts I should look at or anything else based on the info below I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

 

1. What is the club existing set up? ( loft, shaft, flex, swing weight, lenght, etc )

SMT 455DB head on Harmon Tour Design CB65 stiff shaft (I cannot remember if it is .5" or a full inch longer than standard).

 

2. What type of swinger are you? ( smooth or quick tempo swinger )

quick tempo, very fast, almost baseball like (I have a bad shoulder so I do not feel comfortable with a very high backswing)

 

3. What is your handicap and on a scale 1-10 how consistent is your swing?

High and inconsistent. I am fairly new to the game, I am 21 and this is going to be my 3rd summer since I started a few years ago. I usually shoot in the 90's now, my best ever is a 90, but that could easily have been much lower (I got an 11 on one hole, completely blew it, I expect to be fairly consistently in the low 90's and often 80's by the end of the summer). My swing is pretty inconsistent, usually more from day-to-day than hole-to-hole. I have never had lessons before.

 

4. What is the the problem w/ the existing set up?

Slice, and lots of it. Only with the driver, never slice an iron shot.

 

5. Have you ever had a launch monitor session before? ( swing speed, launch angle, ball speed, spin rate, etc?) IMPORTANT!!!

No, but I have hit in a store with a swing speed monitor. Driver swing speed was up around 120 on average. I guess that is pretty fast, and I can hit drives 300+ when they do not slice.

 

6. What are you trying to change or achieve on your new set up?

I want to be able to use my driver again. Some days I do not even bother because the slice is so bad and I just use a 3 iron instead.

 

7. Have you had any dynamic club fitting before? Lie angle?

No.

 

8. etc.

I am 6'2" 205lbs, and very strong (I am a Division I ski racer in college).

I originally bought my HTD shaft with a clone driver head. But after breaking that, and its replacement, I bought The SMT head (based on good reviews and a lifetime warranty).

whats the loft of club you for got that. the cb is not a good shaft for you from what im reading, but have to know loft of club and ball flight you have and what you want height wise

shaft isnt going to fix your slice, do you hit the ball high or low on a good shot, how would you like your ball flight to be

Honestly speaking, just talk to your local teaching pro first and get a few lessons and tell us here what do you need to work on your swing. This way you can tell if we need to fix the club too or not.

There is a golfers warehouse in natick and i am pretty sure they have a hotsticks launch moniter not sure if this will help but it might

Golfers Warehouse in Natick does have a Launch Monitor and have the Hot Stix software. I think a driver fitting is either $30 or $50 and includes a golf ball fitting as well. You might want to check what they have in stock, but they will be able to order just about anything for you and install it there.

 

Also, if you are willing to drive a little further, you might want to check out Pro Golf in Shrewsbury. They are a smaller shop, but the guys there are very easy to work with and will be able to get you what you need. They are also having a HUGE sale this weekend, so pm me if you want the details.
