Lead tape

can anyone give me some guidance on where to apply the tape in order to produce a lower ball flight from my 6 iron - PW, I am playing MP 32's with DG S300's. The 32's can balloon on me and I prefer a mid-lower trajectory, I am a natural high ball hitter. I don't have any cabbage for new sticks or shafts so I am going to the tape for the first time.

You need to apply it has high as you can. However, you're not going to accomplish the changes you want with lead tape unless you apply an entire roll to an iron. Lead tape can't add weight in a concentrated enough fashion to accomplish realistic CG change.

 

I'd go find an instructor for some lessons on controlling trajectory or a shaft change.

if the lead tape is set up to be 3 inches = 1 swing weight...how much in grams would 3 inches weigh? Does anyone have the calculation? I had my putter cut down an inch and wanted to put lead tape enough to add 10 grams of weight.

In this thread with swing weight factors, it says that approximately 2g of head weight is needed to increase one swing weight point.

So approximately 15" of lead tape will be needed to get your 10g.

I just measured 15" of 1/2" wide lead tape that I bought at Golf Galaxy in their "GolfWorks" section and it came out to be 8g on a digital scale.

I use 'heavy' lead tape that weighs more per inch. A friend of mine is a Tour Rep and is a magician with this stuff. He'll move tape all around driver and make our ball flights completely change. I've seen him turn a slice into a draw this way!

i just traded my 905R for a 905T....i did it specifically for a shaft change. the new (used) one had some lead tape on the back edge toward the heal of the hosel....i'd say about three 2" strips on top of each other.

 

i asked the dude at golfsmith what the lead tape would do to the ball flight.....he says draw bias.....true?

to change your ball flight you would need 20 grams of weight or more to even notice, your swing weight will be off the scale

swing weight change, ive experimented with 25 gramp moving from heal to to with noticable ball flight change except for swing weight
