Rogue tour 125 msi

Does anyone play a tour issue 125 msi untipped? Aldila says 0" tipping as standard recommendation, and I've always played my drivers untipped, but the builder recommends at least 1/2" and all I read is guys playing it tipped.

Any advice is appreciated. It's going into an aeroburner tp, TS flex with 100-105 swing speed

The Rogue 125msi is a beast. I would think you would be fine with 0 tipping. In reality the only thing a 1/2" tipping will do is lower your spin and launch just a touch. You can always install it straight in and leave it a 1/2" long to try it, than if you want a little lower flight, pull the shaft and tip it that 1/2". I've done this before.

Without knowing the reason on why the builder is recommending 1/2" tipping it's impossible to make any judgement on the recommendation.

If you've never hit the shaft before (in a demo or fitting), then it's always best to start out with no tipping. You can always tip it more later after hitting the club - but once tipped, it can't usually be undone. So it's always a safer option to start with less tipping.

If you have hit the shaft before, we'd need to know both the specs of the demo club you used (playing length, head weight, head BBTG) to test the shaft (and whether it was tipped or not and how much) and the specs of the requested build to make any estimate on whether tipping should be done to match the feel in the two clubs.

I have hit it but in a driver with an adapter tip on it, and thus it was tipped 1/2" but because of the adapter. It felt good, but what I don't know is how to recreate the eqivelant feel in a glued hosel?

Glued or adapter doesn't matter for how the head effects the feel of the shaft. Playing length, head weight (for adjustable this would include the weight of the adapter), and head BBTG are the specs that would be needed to duplicate the feel.

Sorry, don't take this the wrong way but that sounds like an assumption about the amount of tipping that may not have any actual basis. It's a common misconception but:

1) Titleist is the only company that tips some (not all) shafts 1/2" - and they specifically don't do any tipping for the Rogue silvers (including the 125 msi version - at least haven't' since the 910) so it would not have been tipped if it came from Titleist.

2) TM may have tipped it a full inch if the shaft came from the factory - but I never was aware of that shaft being a custom upgrade option from TM (at least I've never seen it).

3) No other OEM that I've heard of tips just because of the adapter.

4) The 125 MSI is typically an aftermarket purchase so it's less likely that it came from any factory and so could have been built by anyone - which means any amount of tipping or no tipping could have been done. So unless the owner specifically told you that they did the tipping themselves or specifically asked their builder for a certain amount of tipping, you can't really know how much it may or may not have been tipped.

No offense taken at all, i appreciate the help, I'm not assuming on the tipping part the builder told me he tipped it 1/2" before installing the adapter, he uses the new universal adapter fittings so all demo shafts get tipped 1/2".

The club I hit it with was a jetspeed at 45" playing length, 1-3/4" bbtg, head weight I dont have with me but is in the low 190-195g range. 1/2" tip with taylormade adapter.

New build will be aeroburner tp 45" playing length, glued (long hosel), 2.25 bbtg, 192-193 g head weight.

If you take the same playing length and build to the same swing weight (with the same shaft), you can usually assume the head weights will be similar enough.

Interesting, I've seen TM go to 2" for BBTG but never seen anyone go any further than that for a driver so that would be very atypical.

I didn't mention hossel length (actually bore depth) before since most OEM std bore heads are close enough not to worry about it but a special long hossel can impact the relative tipping amount if the bore depth is also extended - longer than normal. But for the sake of the discussion, let's assume the long BBTG is from the long hossel but with the bore depth is still close to std for a std bore head (a long hossel with a longer than normal bore depth would have a more normal BBTG).

So with the assumption that the head weight (and swing weight) will be close to the same, and the main difference being the BBTG, the math tells us you'd need an additional 1/2" of tipping over what was done with the demo club to get the shaft to play similarly. Now tipping isn't really a linear effect and the 2nd 1/2" can cause more change than the first 1/2" so I might back that down to 3/4" just to be a little safe. Leave a little extra at the butt end in case you might want to go back and tip a bit more after testing it out in the new head.

Now there are a lot of assumptions in that. What universal system was used? Some of them can effectively change the bore depth or BBTG of the head so it may not be accurate to use the actual jetspeed specs. In fact, if it's recommended to tip 1/2" for that particular system, there is a good chance that it does have some effect above and beyond a 'normal' installation with that head (otherwise there would be no need to go against the shaft manufacturers normal tipping instructions). It could be because of change in BBTG, bore depth and/or added weight.

So IF 1/2" if tipping with that system is the equivalent of no tipping in the same head with the 'normal' shaft installation method (whether OEM adapter or glued), then it may very well mean the longer BBTG of the aeroburner tp LH only means you need to tip 1/2" to match the shaft to the way it was when you demo'd it.
