For Lake Fishing goods.....which one? We have both but Inhave never been in either as they pretty far out from me.

I prefer bass pro by far. Our Cabela's always seem to have empty shelf space, items in the wrong place and is generally messy and employees that are disinterested. Bass pro in Mesa is always neat, inviting and orderly.

Both do their purpose.... For basic fishing, Dicks or most other sporting goods stores would suffice.

Your experiences seem to have been different than mine. Don't have a local Cabelas, but the ones I've been in have been well-stocked and they had knowledgeable sales staff. (Closest one is 2+ hrs away, and worth making a day trip). There's a Bass Pro 45 minutes away, but it has the feel of a Lowe's/HD.

I always felt Cabelas had a better quality product than Bass Pro. Perhaps it has to do with fishing vs hunting. Cabelas brand hunting clothes have been the best I have owned.

I hope BassPro runs the combined company like Berskshire Hathaway - keep management and business model, so a successful company can continue to be successful. Probably not likely. I remember when Cabelas bought Gander Mtn (mail order business), didn't maintain the brand and GM products dried up in a few years.

I'm in Nebraska so it was a sad day for Cabelas folks like myself. Hopefully they both continue on and there is little, if any, change to the stores but that's probably wishful thinking. I always love going to the Cabelas in Sydney when I drive out to Utah in the summers. It's like a little gateway to the west, lol.

Could be CrabDaddy, can't say I go up to the hunting section at all really. Our Cabella's here in Glendale never really seemed to get it together. The Bargain Cave looks like an Apache Junction yard sale and every time I go into the store an entire section somewhere is bare and roped off. Could easily be local management just not doing a good job or the store is too big for their inventory. I love BPS fishing gear, 5 years ago I bought a cheap saltwater spinning combo that I could jam in my golf bag for trips to Florida. Mostly expected to leave it behind or at most use it two or three times before something breaking. That $25 rod and reel is ready for its 8th trip. Cabellas does have a great wildlife "museum" that I enjoy when I am on that side of town.
