Played my first 18 hole course today...what a blast!

Played my first 18 hole course today at beautiful Longhills golf club in Benton Arkansas. I was really impressed with the course and the staff was really great! They even gave me a USGA rules of golf that I can keep in my golf bag! The course is rated 68.3 from the white (6148 yard) with a 114 slope. I shot a 123 on the par 72 so I have a lot of room for improvement. A funny thing happened when we finished the front nine there was this bull from a local farm that had wandered onto the course. When the greenskeeper and his helpers couldn't run him off they had to call the police and animal control shot it with a couple of tranquilizer darts. Even though I got a mild sunburn I will always remember the fun time I had my first day on a real golf course!

Nice story I also played my first 18 hole course recently, it was a charity tournament just outside Pattaya in Thailand. Im English but based in Bangkok.

 

I had never played before so didn't take it seriously at first (my friends ensured I followed etiquette etc) but I was really "just there for the beer and the walk" but I played a few holes, some par 3 s etc and had a great day out in the sunshine.

 

I know that the bug has bitten hard because, we gave up at the 12th, as one of the holes was being sponsored by a firm that laid on margaritas served by girls in short skirts. I have since found out that this is not a common occurrence but yet I still want to play...

 

I have a ton of questions regarding right equipment and instructors etc but will open up new topics for that as dont wish to hijack yours.

 

Anyway 123 I think is quite respectable, I have no idea what I shot, apart from Tequila, but when I do approach my first 18 sensibly I will post up my first scores too ;)

I hope you keep up the enthusiasm and continue to get that good feeling every time you play. They say there is always one shot in a round that keeps you coming back.... I know that's true for me.

128 is pretty good score for someone who never played before. I think I shot over 120 2 months ago!

Thanks maxxym! I think lessons would be a great idea! And I couldn't agree more about a beautiful course being relaxing! For me there's nothing like golf to revitalize and energize me! I finally see now why this sport is so popular. Good luck on the links today and have fun!

I really started to play last year. Nothing as remotely serious as this year. I am addicted to this game. I played 4 times last week, and going to play today, tomorrow and on Thursday and most likely over the weekend.

 

I took my first lessons about a month ago. It was introductory lesson, where the instructor changed my grip, my stance and how to aim. It made huge difference for me.

 

Lessons will cost you about 40-50 bucks per half an hour, but believe me, it is better than buying any driver or club. I don't have expensive clubs (Bought a brand new Affinity brand set for 250 bucks, with bag and all) I am working on what my instructor showed me everyday and it's getting better.

 

Get lessons before you start getting into bad habits.

 

Golf is an awesome game. Good for your career too! ;)

 

Go out and enjoy. Looks like you got a bug already :friends: That's a good thing. It's better to go out and hit 9 holes walking at nice course than go out to bar and drink beers...

Well Done and welcome to the best sport in the world. Sounds like the staff from Tequilla Reef treated you right with the flowing Margaritas!! Being served drinks by young ladies in short skirts may not be common on the courses around Pattaya except during friendlies, but it is common, as you know in other parts of Pattaya eh!!

I've been to Pattaya once, I'm sure the courses there are beautiful. Can anyone suggest which courses are the nicest around Bangkok?

Frankly I dislike playing in and around Bangkok. Some, but not all by any means are beautifully laid out and challenging but the prices are a bit "out there".

You won't go wrong with any of them though they are south of Bangkok about an hours drive (a bit longer for Laem Chabang).

Well, price and perhaps the fact that my home is in Pattaya....might somehow influence my opinion. But, the underlying bur under my saddle is the "attitude" I sense whenever I play closer to BKK. Somehow as if I am personally not worthy of being permitted to play on my own soil. But, in any case, I am sure you will enjoy almost any course since we all get the most out of a game regardless of where it is located.

I'm glad you had fun. When I shot a 110 though on my first trip I felt like killing my playing partner. Great story about the bull.
