Mechanical watches and golf?

Anyone on here into watches or wear a mechanical watch whilst playing? Phil Mickelson plays whilst wearing a Rolex Cellini, I'd like to wear one of my watches whilst playing but people say you shouldn't play golf whilst wearing a mechanical/automatic watch because it can damage it. Any thoughts or experience on this subject?

Cell phone. Before that took the watch off, no reason to wear it on the course.

Thanks, a lot of people saying don't do it. It would be interesting to see if Phil has ever had a problem! I guess I'll not wear my Rolex then and just wear my SKX maybe, just think Phil wearing one looks smart.

I know a phone tells the time, however you could give that argument for watches full stop on and off the course. I wear a mechanical watch because I like them, in the same way that a lovely set of irons is just a nice thing to look at.

Not advancing an argument, just giving my experience.

 

You want to accessorize, go wild Ellis - "it's a Rolex."

 

People should wear what they want. I'd email Rolex customer service and ask them.

Until getting a golf GPS watch last year I always wore a basic Citizen watch on the course since I took up the game 20+ years ago. It got to the point where if I forgot to wear it, I didn't feel right standing over the ball.

i had to send a watch in to be rebuilt after playing golf whilst wearing it. After a couple years of wearing it whilst playing it stopped winding whilst wearing it. Cost me a cool $900 and I learned to take my watch off whilst playing golf.
