Right knee movement and related shanking

where should it go?

As I've discussed in a couple other threads, I've been battling a pretty persistent shank as of late, and I'm beginning to suspect that my right knee is the culprit. Can anyone tell me definitively where the right knee is supposed to go during a swing? I think my inside-out shank is the result of kicking my right knee out (toward the ball) just before impact, thereby forcing my hands (and the club) to move out in order to clear my knee. Is there a good drill/fix for this?

In my opinion you are way oevr thinking every move in the golf swing. Get back to basics and I am sure things will be ok. Bad things usually happen when you over think the swing and or shot.

 

Get behind the ball, take a good practice swing taking into consideration what you are working on. After that swing get over the ball and just hit it, you will be amazed at how your second swing copies the first without a whole lot of thinking.

Have you ever had the shanks? I suspect not. The best thing to do with the shanks is analyze what is happening and why. The shanks are not a virus as my caddie Romes says, they are a result of a flaw in your swing. Finding out what the flaw is and working at correcting it is the only way to get rid of the shank once and for all.

Couldn't have said it better myself. It is precisely that which has always felt natural that is causing the shank. Help!!!

I have shanked more than a few in my life and when it repeatedly happens I notice one thing. I am moving laterally too much. I really work on clearing my hips , almost as if I am pulling my left hip well out of the way. This eliminates me from sliding into the ball. What happens with me when I slide is I slide forward and to the right, which pushes my hands away from me where the only place I can make contact is on the hosel. Try to widen your stance, and really think about getting your hips left. works for me anyway. Hope this makes sense

Think about the balance of your weight. The feeling that you are getting with your right knee is most likely a result of something else. In your swing, try to feel more centered with your weight; not too much on your toes, and not too much on your heels. On the forward motion of your swing, focus on finishing on your left heel.

 

This may or may not help, without seeing your golf swing it difficult to tell for sure what's happening, but this may help.
