Golfing in the southeast

Where would you move and why? FL, SC, and so on... Moving later this year from PA and want a good location (southeast only) for golf year round.

My wife and I have actually been talking about this a little lately. The first place we will probably look is North Carolina. My dad lived around Charlotte and he always said he pretty much could play all year round. I still remember going there in February one year and it was snowing in Chicago when we got the on the plane and it was upper 70s when we got to Charlotte. My sister lives outside Athens Georgia and thinks we should check it out there. We're still a couple of days away but the memory of that day still sticks in our heads.

I live on the coast in Georgia right above Jacksonville FL. It is spectacular for golf. Judging by all the golfing communities, I think the word got out.

You can play year round in nc ga sc fla all. I live in upstate sc and there are roughly 45 golf courses inside a hour drive from me. Checkout the Landrum , tigerville , travelers rest , Greenville areas of SC. All are 2 hours from Atlanta and 1 1/2 to 2 hours from Charlotte NC . It's the best school district , rural yet close to anything modern you could want place in the state.

If you are looking for year round warm weather you will need to move to south FL. I live in central MS and we have several days in the winter when its too cold for golf. I also have a vacation condo on the AL coast and same thing....it can get cold. But nothing like the cold up north so a few days here and there may not bother you. If I had no family ties here I would look into SC. Tons of good golfing there and a nice area.

Where does your sister live out of curiosity? I live in Commerce, GA which is about 25 minutes outside of Athens

Charleston sc is a great option. Can golf all year, great public courses in the area. Amazing private ones if you have the money. And there are golf books to play cheaper. Plus with Kiawah just down the road you can play it often haha

Jacksonville's beaches. We haven't lost a single day to "cold" in a couple of years. Yeah, some northeasters in the spring make it unplayable, but they tend to equally affect most of the northern half of the state. Lots of great golf courses and being near a metro area, tons of stuff to do. And inexpensive. And no snowbirds (they don't like temps below 60).

I lived in Ponte Vedra Beach for a while. I love that spot, I really miss it.

 

Can't really go wrong with that area.. PVB, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach. ECT

I live in South MS...down here theres only a handful of days where it gets below 45ish at mid afternoon. This winter has been great though, from Dec-March, I played golf more times in a short sleeve shirt than I did with layers and a jacket. I have been in shorts or just pants and a golf shirt almost everyday since Feb.

Probably gonna need to go farther south than western NC. Charlotte area you can go basically year round but it will still have some cold spells.

 

I wish it was warmer here year round. The wife won't move though :(

Anywhere below north ga is going to be pretty decent to play golf in year round. I live right in the middle of Georgia in Macon, and I played all through November, December, and January with nothing more than a light pullover. February was back to shorts.

avoid south florida. all the courses feel the same minus a handful. id stick to the carolinas closer to the mountians.

 

also cant count alabama they have some nice cpirses plus the rtj trail is there
