Rick Shiels FG Tour 100

Recommended Posts

Medic started a thread in the equipment forum: http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1454904-wilson-fg-tour-100-irons-wow/page__pid__15121934#entry15121934

But I thought I would start a separate post here. He loves these. Lol.

Main reason I'm starting a separate topic is do we think we here in the classic forum can send him a set of 71' Wilson's like he requested? I think this would be awesome.

I'd do it if I had em.

I have to laugh though looking at the comments and you see these guys boasting a 8 or lower handicap saying they'd never be able to hit one. Amazing that a hacker like me can I guess. lol

I posted in that thread, but I don't want to go any deeper than I already did. The Blade Deniers would come out in full force. LOL

The FG100s look awesome. Local 2nd Swing had a couple sets, but I never got around to visiting to check them out. And now they're gone. It is a sad day...

Hoping they get a few more in. :)

Best to remain measured here, in keeping within the general flavor of commentary in this sub-forum.

Hit the FG100's at the LGS range last fall. About 25 balls off a mat with a 7 iron, the first ten just getting loose. Very nice iron when on the button, certainly didn't have a OMG moment. No better or worse than others of their ilk (my '99 Apex's, MP5's). Probably more to do with being shafted TTDG S300 and a bit short. DG and I are ill suited for one another. As for appearances, an absolute stunner. Best in store IMO. Would like to have auditioned with a more appropriate shaft, say something like a Pro Modus 105 in R, and 1" longer.

Reservations though. Especially if purchased new, they're pricy. Seemed to have very limited (at best) shaft options available. The depreciation on these may be penal. Wilson has a limited following in the real world these days. (Sad, but another story.) May realize a pretty hefty drop in value after a year or two, if one decided to sell.

WTS, if the right used situation (heads only!) presented itself, could definitely see being all over the FG100's.

Edit add: Or just find a nice set of "Buttonbacks" and go about the process of unscrewing the shafts.

Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Rick isn't the most consistent with his reviews even though I enjoy watching them. He says he wants to see 7000 rpm spin on his 7 iron but has literally never gotten that in any review, including his own Pings that he plays now. He hit the Wilson FG100 wedge high and got over 10,000 rpm yet said he could easily play them but he got the same spin with the single length irons and hit them high but said it wouldn't work.

Forged? Couldn't he get real ones?

Eyethankyew.

Nice clubs and nice discussion, but these guys have drunk the manufacturer's koolaid on the whole blades being difficult to hit thing eh?

Something a little bit sad about this. Don't know about you, but I am glad I had the tough love of a two iron a groove low on a cold morning. Didn't run off and buy a set of Pings, actually f ^&k you two iron, I'm going to make sure that doesn’t happen again, thanks for the lesson, let's be friends.

Only God can hit a one iron? I can hit mine better than my wedge. Hence the 0559 train to London Bridge tomorrow for my desk job damn it.

Also something sad about the demise of Wilson, but these are greenshoots of the company so many know and love...

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
