left hand slipping

can anyone tell me what some causes of this would be

on my backswing my left hand sometimes slips into a stronger posistion

is this some grip or swing fault or just a common thing?

Most certainly a grip fault? If anything your right hand might shift (I'm assuming you're a right handed golfer) if you're using a really light grip pressure and then it would more likely be a swing fault. You should be basically holding the club with your left hand and shifting your left hand grip in your back swing would probably result in dropping the club altogether.

hmm, well its definately the left hand, as in my grip i break some of hogans grip laws, like i have my right thumb down the shaft and my right index finger helping and i use a baseball grip... hogan would be sick.

So are you doing this right at the top of your backswing? and breaking your wrist to put your left hand under the club? Might try concentrating on keeping the line of your forearm and the back of your hand. I don't think this is a common problem.

I've had this happen before. My guess would be when your hand "slips" you end up hitting a giant, crappy hook? I began focusing on creating a pressure point with the heel of my left hand and the butt of the club, with the left thumb going straight down the shaft. That pretty much eliminates any chance of the club shifting on the backswing.

Before reading all the other posts, I'm going to ask the obvious, just for confirmation.

1. Is your grip itself warn out, causing slipping?

2. Is your grip pressure in your left hand to light?

3. Are you wearing a glove?

well i think i discovered the problem, the grips are too small, and actually one of the grips was actually moving on its own. that grip was twisted over toward the right in the middle of it.

The grips moving is not a good thing! Im glad you found the problem.
