One length fairway finder

Anyone try a 4 iron in 7-iron length as a trusty fairway finder..i tried the 4iron from the cobra one lenght forged and i hit it super straight..in my head its seems like a no brainer..a club the length of a 7iron that you really dont miss that much??..not talking about the whole set..just something to find some more fairway on some super tight holes..

Liam from Golf Vlogs UK (aka Golfmates) cut an old driver down to a 7 iron length, and found that indeed, it became a fairway finder.  Still hit about 200 yards, but kept it low and slow into the wind and stuff.

 

Anyway, I found this thread while drying to find out if anyone here had cut down a driver to fairway length.  #searchnoob

 Why not just hit a Cobra one length hybrid

   Golf mates is entertaining but would not take club advice from them

I've been playing one length irons for a couple years now and I'd say that off the tee is one of the biggest advantages with single length. For many people the 3-5 iron can be difficult to elevate, but off the tee that's not a problem. If I were you, I'd look at the Cobra Utility One Length 3 or 4 iron. You can adjust the lofts, and it is a much more forgiving club that is easier to elevate as well. I recently picked up one of the old Black Edition Utility 3 irons and am playing it at 18.5* and it is much easier to elevate and more forgiving then the Edel 3-iron that I play in the rest of my irons.

I have the F9 OL 3, 4 & 5 hybrids. The 3 is a no-brainer for me when I need to hit a tight fairway

The Black Utility One 4 is an awesome tee club and the absolutely easiest DI to strike from the fairway.  One length is part of it, but sole turf interaction is the best of any DI I've played.  I play standard length, but this One is a keeper.

 

The F8 One 4 hybrid which I bought twice, was a massive hook monster, short in distance and not tee friendly.  The 5 however is straight, very short in distance, but an amazing trouble club.  Definitely not for the tee box.

for me my 48 " long K15 is a fairway finder  but if one really wanted a fairway finder -- I would go with a putter.

See, the reason it piqued my curiosity was because I recently cleaned out the garage and consolidated all of my golf gear into 2 legal sets...and I wound up with a few extra drivers (Titleist 975D and Taylor Made 300 TI) that are worth very little anymore in the used gear market.  I was just wondering if, for the sake of experimentation, it would be worth chopping one of 'em down and seeing what happens if it were a 7 iron length.
