A neighbour down the road had a larger JD 2 cyl., I think it was a model 70, a diesel, that had a pup start gas engine to get her going. I don't have much of a memory for that as he traded it when I was still quite young for something a bit more modern. That tractor would have been early 50's vintage as it had a hydraulic front-end loader on it. Another neighbour had a couple of gas 2 cylinders; a B and a 330, but they were 6 volt electric start which became common in the post war period.

I definitely remember the signature sound of the JD 2 cylinder; a sort of rural symphony from an earlier time, although the diesel was so loud that I swore you could feel it as well as hear it even if it was over a mile away!

My problem is LOFT -- Lack of friggin' talent

Was that the one which you started with a cartridge? There was one which, if you positioned the flywheel so it was before TDC it would run backwards. All part of the lease lend agreement involving agricultural equipment during WW2.

The old Detroit Diesels the 231 or 671 as some call it and the 318 or 8V-72 would run backwards if you stalled one just right. They were subject to make a mess because they would push engine oil through the air breather. those engines before they had electric fuel shut offs were subject to run wild or away if the fuel injector rack stuck in the wide open position. The only way you could stop one before it hand grenaded was to cut off the fuel supply generally by busting the fuel filter with a hammer or a pipe.

I do remember in my early Navy days the propeller driven piston engined Douglas AD-1 Skyraider aircraft used what looked like a shotgun shell that they hit to start it. I was not an "Airdale" in the Navy but liked aircraft and watched flight ops a lot. they were actually phasing out those aircraft when I was in.

Putters shouldn't count in this thread. I am sure lots of guys are using older models, tech doesn't make as big a difference in what Is essentially a feel club. My guess would be,if you did the research you would find the oldest clubs out on tour are probably fairway woods. Back in the day, if a guy found a good driver and /or a 3 wood they would keep it forever. Sam Snead's Izett driver and Jack's Mac 3 wood are famous examples. These days drivers get changed yearly it seems, but many players seem to carry older model 3 woods.

Yep there are a lot of older putters out there good example Jason Gore who did come on WRX some posted photos of the old Ping Anser he uses. Sneds uses that old Odyssey Rossie 2 I think it is. On the Champions Tour Mark McNulty uses an old Bullseye that looks like it has been used as a plow point. Henrick Stenson uses an old Diablo 3 wood and Freddie Couples was using an old Nike Square 3 wood. I never carried a 3 wood back in the day but carried the same H&B 4 wood for close to 20 years and I still have it and hit it still some today. It's replacement was a Callaway Steelhead 3+ that I carried for 13 seasons until the shaft got too stiff for me to hit. Trust me I searched and searched until I found the Adams with a regular shaft I have listed in my signature

Always streaked with oil. Great plane, I think it could drop more ordnance than a B-17.
