left hander with unstoppable hook

I've had a chronic slice for years. Incurable. Couldn't hit a straight shot to save my life. Until this winter. Switched clubs (from R540 to R5 draw) and all of a sudden was hitting straight. And with crazy distance. Sadly this club lasted all of 3 months and I broke the thing. Maybe I should have replaced it with the same model but I found a good deal on an R7 Draw. Now...no more slice. It's all hook. With the slice I could point 30 degrees away from the slice, but with this hook, there's nothing that stops it. The good news is that the distance is great, but I'm usually 30 degrees off of straight. Now even more bizarre is that my mid-iron play is easily a club up from where I use to play. I used to be able to count on a 7 iron for 150. Now 150 is a weak 8. A 7 iron is now 165+ A 5 iron used to be good for 175 and now it's sometimes going over 200. What gives? Why is my driver so messed up and my iron play is turbocharged?
