course in the DFW area

Going to visit the wife's family in the DFW area and looking to get a round in while I'm there. Any public courses you guys recommend for someone that's not an above average player, been playing for a year. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Definitely depends on what area you are in unless you don't mind driving up to 2 hours. There are a multitude of good public courses at different prices there.

The above daily fee/muni courses are generally in good to better condition and are easy drives from Crowley. They are listed by approximate driving distance from Crowley.

If you have the connections to get on a private course, the South and North courses at Ridglea CC are always fun to play. Same for Shady Oaks. Colonial CC is excellent right now but may be tough to access due to tour prep under way for the Dean and Deluca in a couple of weeks.

Depending on your schedule, if you want to play at Pecan Valley I'd come play with you if I'm not working.

I made plans to attend the dean and deluca invitational either Friday or Saturday, and depending on that I'll be looking for a round to play.

If your available either of those day it would be great if you joined in.

LOL......I'll be working at Colonial during the tournament. Actually started working for them a week ago Monday helping prep for the Dean and Deluca. Just "seasonal" as I'll be done on the 28th or 29th. It's been interesting to see all the behind the scenes stuff that is happening prior to the players, tv crews, tournament volunteers, etc. even showing up.

I'd vote for Tierra Verde

But if you don't mind a drive to south Dallas, Cedar Crest is an inexpensive way to play a Tillighast course. I always thought it was a perfect intro to the game. (Time the drive to avoid rush hours)

If I decide on Tierra verda is it as packed in the afternoon than in the morning or are they about the same on a Saturday

slow getting back to you.. sorry.

For your next trip to DFW include Rockwood on the possible list. The city spent $5MM on it. Rerouted it, new everything. It's really really nice. Cooligan Golf , Trey Kemp did a superb job.

Tierra Verde is usually pretty busy. Shop is well run, they will tell you if a single can get out.

Texas Star is one of the few new courses by Keith Foster. You will hear a lot about him this weekend; he managed the repairs / restoration at Greenbriar
