Effect of Elevation on Ball Flight

I have been invited to play in a Member-Guest in the Denver area in July, and I have been wondering what the effect of playing above 5,000 feet elevation will have on carry distance.

 

I live in the NC foothills at approximately 1,000 feet of elevation, and I certainly see a loss of distance when I play down at the coast.

 

Are there any rules of thumb to follow, or is it just something that will take some getting used to? Obviously, some time hitting practice balls with a range finder will be in order.

 

Have been to Colorado many times over the years, but always in winter and always to ski. Really looking forward to seeing it in summertime.

Don't forget to factor in temperature and fairway grass/turf firmness.

 

If it's less than 75* the ball won't fly to it's maximum at any altitude.

 

Some cool climate courses have soft bend grass fairways and greens - basically eliminating roll.

ball goes further no doubt about it i always club down any other part of the united states. makes for great driver shots though on some holes here with amazing views
