New Driver Advice - M2

In my Bag - RBZ2 with Matrix Ozik RUL 60 (yellow) stiff shaft. 9.5 Deg set Upright. Irons Titleist AP2s 710s 3 deg upright.

 

I went for a free fitting for the M2 driver, looking for more distance. Stats as follows -

 

Current club

SS 90-95MPH

Spin 3000+ rpm

launch angle 18-20 deg

stock shot slight fade

carry 215-235 yrds

Distance between 225 and 250

 

M2 (set at 9.5 upright wth HZDUS stiff 60g shaft)

SS 90-95 mph (maybe up slightly 2-3mph)

Spin 2500 rpm (reduced)

launch angle 18-19 deg (no real change)

stock shot slight fade

carry increase of approx. 10 yards

Total distance increase of 10-15 yards

 

My angle of decent is still high at nearly 40 deg. I would like more run as up here in Scotland its always wet :)

 

Now before I go and spend £300 on this, any other recommendations for me? i would like my launch to be lower, however I can't reduce it without getting more of a cut (M2 lower loft setup opens face). there doesn't seem to be an 8.5 deg option for the M2 and even if there was would it affect my spin rate and therefore distance significantly?

With those launch angles I think something is happening in your swing to add loft to the club and the resulting spin rates as well as the angle of descent. Was your angle of attack really high? This could add a few degrees of loft, but spin should be lower if this was the case. Did your fitter talk to you about that? Did he has any ideas on getting the launch down?

TBH it was a free fitting at the local WOrld Of Golf, and I think he was more focused on selling me something. They didn't have a full range of shafts....

 

I am now thinking of trying a low launch low spin shaft...any recommendations?

The yellow HZRDUS shaft is low spin and low / mid launch.

 

not sure if it was the yellow one you hit?

No real recommendations here but your specs are similar to mine. M2 doesn't work for me but M1 works very well. I'd at least demo m1. If you are open to another oem, I'd also demo epic, cobra and ping at a minimum.

the problem with the hzrdus yellow is that if you don't have a smooth tempo that shaft balloons your ball. Ideally you want that spin rate to be about 300 rpms lower i would assume. Find a place with more shaft options. If you can try the hzrdus black.

i attended a TM fitting day at my club and they fitted me with the M2 D-Type, with HZDUS Black, flex 5.5, weight 62g. I was hitting this quite well, and like the feel of the shaft.

 

the issue here is that I don't feel confident in my swing right now to make the decision.

i had similar results at an M2 fitting with a similar swing speed you might be maxed out. Try a lower spin ball that might be the cheapest route.

Try m1 weight forward.
