What to do you guys think of this?

At another hole, a pro was way out in the deep rough with a bunker 50 yards in front of him. The grass was knee high.

 

The rule is, you can part the grass with your hands or club while you are looking for your ball, but once the ball is found you cannot part the grass again.

 

The pro found his ball and was getting ready to hit. But at address he couldn't see the ball anymore, it was so far down in the grass.

 

I saw him bend over and sort of stir the grass with his fingers, hoping for a glimpse of his ball.

 

This is a two-stroke penalty. I looked at the poor pro standing in the deep grass with an impossible shot and bills to pay, and I kept my mouth shut.

 

Lo and behold, the pro dug that ball out of that deep grass with a mighty blow and it sailed over the b

bunker and carried onto the green. He had such a joyful look. I just smiled and walked away.

I guess the rule you're referring to is 13-2...Improving your lie or line of play.

I'm not quite sure what "sort of stir the grass" exactly means, but if I assume it means that he just brushed over the grass so to get the exact location of his ball again which he seemed to have lost for a moment...I see nothing wrong with that.

Unless he moved the grass in a permanent way so to actually improve his lie or line of play or in order to being able to see the ball while making his swing there would be no penalty.
