right now my hcp is +2.9 and im constantly imrpoving my golf game. what chances do you guys think do i have of going tour pro?

Hi mate, welcome to the site!

How old are you? Is it a genuine +2.9 (could you go to any course and shoot 2 or 3 under?).

Good call on the Trevino quote.

For the most part handicaps are irrelevant when you are playing at a high level of competition. You can either shoot well consistently under adverse pressure conditions, or you can't. We all know plenty of scratch golfers that can't break 77 in tournament play. Being mentally good is clutch. Perfect example was Harrington on the weekend.

It's tough to make a blanket statement on this one, but sounds like you're well on your way.

as far as competitive goes im clubchampion and won the AK 18 once (nationwide amateur championship here in germany) but else theres not really much competitive stuff to do. im going on a 3 week golf vacation with some freinds soon and well be playing some fairly difficult courses in turkey so ill see if i can break par there each time. thanks for the advice guys

HI, it's great to hear you have had success at the national level. To really know if you can make money playing the game, I think you'll have to dedicate time and energy to playing more competitive golf. With your handicap you can try the German Amateur, British Amateur, Lytham Trophy- good luck! Your scores in these types of big events will tell you what you need to know.

I agree with this. You've got to put yourself in big competitions to see how you compare (although you've still got a few years left).

Sounds like you've got the game. Keep working on it and make sure you work on your weaknesses.

Do you have regular lessons/coaching?

i have team training 2 times a week and i try to get on the course as much as possible

i dont take any private lessons but rather try to get one of my tammates to see how my swing is if one is around

It may be worth taking some private lessons (expense permitting). Find yourself a reputable teaching pro. These guys really know what they're talking about and they won't take your swing apart. They'll advise you on how to get the most out of your swing and clean up any bits that may cause a problem. They can also teach you new shots that you may not have had before.

As I said before though, you've clearly got the game. You just need to keep working hard to achieve your dream if that's what you really want.

On a side note, don't ignore your studies. There is an eliment of luck to making it on tour and you need something to fall back on if it doesn't happen. Padraig Harrington did a degree in accountancy just in case.

well there is a pretty good pro here that played on the pga aswell but didnt do so well maybe ill ask him.

what do you mean by ,,new shots''? not sure what there is still to learn and school is no problem. i could prob. set up a career in chemics and maybe even a ph.d but sitting behind a desk isnt for me

thanks for the tipps all of you hope i can make something out of em :beach:

If you've got all the shots already then good for you!

Being able to alter trajectory and shape of shot etc etc is massively important. The European Tour covers many different countries nowadays and they deal with all sorts of different weather and course conditions. They guys almost have to bring a different game with them depending on where they are.

anyone has a chance to go pro.. as long as your a good golfer of course. Golf is a sport that just because you don't go pro right out of high school or collage doesn't mean you can't.. it's not like football, or basketball. Although it helps if your good at a young age. If you want it bad enough just practice as hard as you can, since your good already and have a lot left at your age, than i'm sure you can. Good luck. -Chris.

everyone who achieves a low handicap has a chance of goin pro, but until u turn then u never know if ur gonna make any money from it.

im sure everyone here has heard of guys turning pro with no amateur record and achieving great success and guys who seemed certian to do well disappearing off the rader and achieving nothing. Pro's dont care for what anyone achieves as an amateur, so turn pro if u feel u are ever ready and see what happens.
