MP-60 vs. X-tours

I would like any info on these two irons. Are the X-tours as soft as MX-23's and other Mizuno forgings? Which is more forgiving? Has a more penetrating ball flight? Which do you prefer? Thanks :pimp:

I've owned both sets, and can say both are outstanding golf clubs. I would categorize the MP-60s as player's cavity backs. They combine that delicious, soft Mizuno forged feeling with a fair degree of forgiveness. They feel very much like the MP-32s IMO, but are noticably more forgiving. But you do need to be a reasonably good ball striker to play them. Feedback is excellent--you can tell exactly where on the face you are striking the ball.

With the X-Tours, Callaway has taken significant game improvement features and packed them into a smaller, more attractive package. These are very forgiving clubs, IMO. They produce surprisingly reasonable results on bad swings. This forgiveness comes at the expense of feedback. It is somewhat difficult to figure out where on the clubface you are hitting the ball. Although these are forged, they feel nothing like a "solid body" forged club. They do feel far better than most GI clubs.

I have them both also and I agree with Golfdog. I also have a set of MP32s that had been my primary club for the season. I'm a scratch golfer so I have fairly good ball striking ability. Here's my 2 cents:

The MP 60 is a great club similar to to the 32. Ball flight is similar (a touch higher for me, but only a touch). The feel is slightly less with the 60 BUT there is an incredible difference in forgiveness. I know where on the face I hit every shot with the 32s. I could point to the spot on the face without looking. When I miss one toward the toe I lose a ton of distance with the 32. When I first took the 60s out and I hit that same miss, it still goes. I can also tell impact location with the 60s, they share enough feedback to do that. You can hit any shot with the 60s, high/low/left/right. The 60s immediately replaced the 32s in my bag after 1 session at the range.

The Callaway's were the biggest surprise club to date for me. I didn't expect to like them. I didn't even like the way they looked BUT after playing them I do like them. The ball flight for me is higher then the Mizunos. In fact, in my first experiences the ball was really high (I'm surprised no one else seems to express that issue). But I think I can adjust that with different shafts. I like them for 2 main reasons. First, I like the sole and bounce. I know others might not agree but I'm comfortable enough in my game to express it. I have a steep swing angle with lots of spin. Unless the fairways are really firm, I can take a nice chunk out. The Callaway soles are great (for my swing). They are hard to dig because they are wide and have a good amount of bounce. As a result, they have the potential to be a better fit for my game in a wider array of course conditions. The second thing I like is the forgiveness. For me, they are more forgiving then the Mizunos. Those sames shots on the toe not only go but probably end up only 5 yards short. The amazing thing is that they are still almost as workable as the Mizuno's. Just as easy to move them right to left or left to right. Easy to send them high, Almost as easy to keep them low. They do not have the feel of the Mizunos though. I could tell you if I hit the sweet-spot or not with the Callaway's and the general direction of the miss on the face but I probably can't point to the exact location on the face without looking. That's OK with me if I start hitting more greens (or more accurately, start hitting them closer to the hole). I suspect that once I get the right shaft, the Callaways might bump out the 60s from the bag.

Hope that rambling helps.

Great info..... I currently swing the MX-23's and love the feel of them :pimp: The only Callaway's that I have hit before are the X-12 pro series and they definitely don't have the soft feel of Mizuno's(I know, they are cast). But all of the hype and praise surrounding the X-tours have made me curious....

I am just trying to find which of the two should be my next set as I have dropped my HC to below 15 and am becoming a club HO thanks to this site!!!!!!!
