Should have left thumb on grip short or long

hogan principle vs article just read which is right???

I am struggling with hooking the ball at moment due to my grip being very strong. I am trying to weaken it (am right handed)

I have just read and article which states that a short left thumb on grip will increase a hook which my left thumb currently is.

I began keeping it short after reading hogans principles but now read this bit of conflicting information. I was wondering if you guys have any thoughts / experiences on whether a longer thumb will help reduce the hook. I am obviously trying to weaken the left hand as well by turning hand to have less knucles visible.

Any comments on people on the left thumb would be gratefully appreciated...

I think you can weaken the grip without messing with your thumb. I do think the short thumb keeps one from crossing the line, and is better for control, just my opinion.

 

I would say just open the face and keep your grip.

I agree with eg002,

 

The long vs. short left thumb decision should be based on how well you do or don't control the club at the top of BS. If you tend to have less than a 90 deg. included angle between the left arm and clubshaft at the top, then the short left thumb is a good way to go. If the club feels loose/sloppy at the top, the short left thumb can help that. If you have trouble achieving much left wrist cocking, then a longer left thumb can help create more lag.

 

Make sure you grip the club properly in terms of how you hold it, where the pressure points are (5 lessons is the best at describing this), then adjust the strength of your grip over time based on a consistent ball flight pattern.

Agree with both of you and the short left thumb will increase the pressure in u r pinky, ring and mid finger(known for something else) and the one in between whatever that is called of u r left hand.

 

I personally do not like the presure in my left index finger : an I think its nothing but trouble in the right index finger... take a look in the mirror at the top both ways and hits some balls see what is best for you!!

 

When you start to think about the long left thumb verse short see how it works on u r over all grip "fingers - hands".
