Is Game Golf Live Being Replaced?

I'm interested in picking up Game Golf Live. Looks like a really good product.

 

I noticed on PGA Tour Superstore that the price ends in .98

 

Does that mean the current version is being replaced?

 

If so, does anyone know anything about the replacement or upgrade?

Will get rid of tapping the device however, still have a pick to carry on your belt.

AS an avid GameGolf user, I've been sorely disappointed in the lack of progress in the website. After all, collection of data is actually the easy part. It's a club and GPS coordinates.

 

After that, it's data manipulation on the website.

 

The main problem with the stats are the strokes gained. They are based on other users with a certain handicap range. The problem with that is that if you look at details of rounds played by random players, you can tell that most people do not tag or adjust their tag location accurately especially on the green. For example, you'll see a lot of 2 putts with the distance of "15/15", "18/18", "12/12" etc. Meaning "15/15" was a two putt, the first putt went 15 feet, and the second putt also went 15 feet.

 

What's happening is that someone had a 30 footer, put it within gimmie distance of the hole and picked up, and later just did a "+1" in the data on the green. When that happens the system just divides the first putt up into equal lengths.

 

Well, that completely skews strokes gained for putting, not to mention those people also aren't setting the pin location, so who knows if their putt actually was 15 feet.

 

That's not as big of a problem the farther you get from the hole, but even then, you'll see drives which are 450 yards, which clearly someone forgot to tag something. It's just not reliable to base strokes gained on other players.

 

What the need to do is get PGA Tour data and compare it to that, however I have a feeling that info is proprietary.

The clip can be worn on your belt or be kept inside your bag somewhere. It just has to be so many feet from the sensors to work properly. This is a big improvement over the tagging process of the past. They also have it set up where your data can automatically be shared with your instructor if you get it set up. There were some really nice features added to the new product. I saw it at the merchandise show and spoke with a rep for about 20 min on it.

I don't see how the new sensor could possibly differentiate between a real swing and a practice swing if I take a divot.

 

If it misses any strokes because of it I will consider this a huge step back from manual tagging.
