What courses should i play near Lafollette, TN? (Knoxville area)

I am going down to Tennessee over Labor Day and i am looking for some nice courses to play near Lafollette.

I would be willing to drive an hour or so. Also if you could list an estimate on the rates that would be good. Thanks for the info guys.

I am not sure how far away it is, but there is a nice course in the look out Mt. area called Canyon Ridge. Nice layout in good shape.

I've played River Islands on the East side of Knoxville off I-40 in Kodak a bunch of times and like it a lot. It's an interesting Arthur Hills course with really nice Zoysia fairways. Once of the highlights is the long par 3 over the French Broad River.

I have heard River Island is nice. Do you have any idea what the rates are there? They don't list them on their website.

It's been 5 or 6 years since I've played there so I don't know how the rates are now. I remember at the time it seemed in the $40 to $50 range with cart, which was about $10 to $15 more than I was used to paying for a round at a nice local muni. I was living in Cincinnati then.

Use Golf Now to book at River Island. Should run $30-$50 depending on the date and tee time.

I have played River Islands and it is a great golf course both scenic and playablility. If you do not want to drive from lafolletewhich is about an hour away from kodiak. Deerfield is the golf course that is actually in Lafollette. You can look it up online.

I am actually going to play Deerfield, but I am looking for a second course to play. I am looking for something that is a pretty good course within about 65 miles.

Wasioto Winds in Pineville, Kentucky is a very nice course. I checked Mapquest and it is around 46 miles from La Follette. I think it runs around $50-65, but I haven't played it this year. I have also heard great things about River Island as well, but I haven't played it.

has anyone played Woodlake Golf Club in tazwell or Landmark Golf Club? I saw that these were around the area. So far it sounds like River Islands is my best bet.

I think Woodlake is a pretty good layout. We try to play it at least once a month. I'd guess you already checked their website out but if you didn't they have a tour of all the holes.

Check out Ratity Bay, or Avalon. Both are really nice courses, and always seem to be in great shape. Like most people seem to say River Island is a great course as well.

Woodlake is great! A little out there, but never crowded and the conditions are wonderful. Luckilly, not many people, othere that retirees and tourists, venture there to play. They have all kinds of coupons and specials as well.

Deerfield is a course that shouldn't exist. Someone asked "What should we do with this hillside?". Some idiot said "let's build a golf course" to which the unanimous reply was "NO WAY can you fit a course on that piece of ground". To which the idiot said "Watch this!" Thus Deerfield was born.

 

If you have nothing else to do and MUST play golf in La Follette then Deerfield is your choice.

 

Better choices would be to head east on highway 63 till you get to Harrogate and highway 25E. Turn left to go to Wasioto Winds at Pine Mountain State Resort Park in Pineville, KY ($30-$35 - 1-800-325-1712) or turn right to Woodlake in Tazwell TN (one of my favorites - $35-$40 - 423-626-6010) or go south on I-75 to Oak Ridge and play Centinial ($40 - 865-483-2291).

 

Anything else in the area I would recommend is pretty far away (over an hour). That includes River Island, Egwani Farms or Avalon which are at least an hour and a half from La Follette in light traffic since you have to drive through Knoxville to get there. Rairity Bay is at least 2 hours away.

I would invite you to play a round at my home course which is in N. Knoxville and only about 45 min. from LaFollette, but this weekend is our club championship and then I'm off to Key West and the Bahamas for a week.

River Islands, Landmark at Avalon, Willow Creek, Centennial, Rarity Bay, Millstone.

 

All very nice courses in the Knoxville area.
