One Round SoCal - SD, PS,LA

I am heading down to San Diego, Palm Springs and LA next week for 8 days. I have played Torrey North and South before and don't have connections to any privates in LA.

Where should I tee it up. trying to keep it under $200. Obviously, if a private was in play i would increase the budget.

Right now I am looking at Rams Hill, Rustic Canyon or PGA West Stadium after looking at some other threads. Rams Hill looks like my wife could just relax while I am there or I could just take the rental and let her stay at our hotel.

Or should i just relax and play Coronado one morning and then I don't have to worry about find the wife something to do.

have played Coronado, Rustic Canyon, Oak Quarry, & both Pelican Hill courses (after the 2007 renovations).

Purely in terms of golf course design, I would pick Rustic Canyon ($67), then Oak Quarry ($100). Coronado ($62) is flat & not exciting, but in a beautiful location by the bay.

Pelican Hill has a rack rate of $320 including forecaddie ($180 around 1 pm; forecaddie extra). Even at the lower rate I think the courses are overpriced, despite the nice views.

If you don’t mind driving out of the way rams hill is supposed to be the best course.

I am making my 8th trip out to LA in 6 years for golf next month. I am currently planning a 6 round trip in the LA, SD and PS area and I agree with the Rustic suggestion. I am locked in on Torrey North and South because I am playing it the week after the Farmers and know the conditions will be top notch. I am leaning SD over PS becauseI want to see the Scotty Gallery again and my friend has never been to Torrey.

We will also be playing Rustic and the other 3 options are up in the air. I will only have time for 2 in SD and or PS. The rest will have to be in OC or LA area as my friend who I am visiting lives in LA.

Have you considered Barona? I love that course but I find it hard to pass up Torrey to play there.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Rams Hill looks great but its in the middle of nowhere and the wife wouldn't have much to do (made I need to do more research to see what is close but looking at map quickly it doesn't look good.)

Torrey is great, but If Rams Hill is out of the question I might be leaning towards Coronado just for the views and nice easy walk. I have played Torrey a few times but I hear the redo of the north is pretty good, last time I played it was 08 or 09

Skylinks, El Dorado, Mile Square

Thanks, are these all better options than Navy Destroyer?

I haven't played Navy Destroyer, but from what I have heard of it, I think yes. I like El Dorado the best of the 3.

I haven't played Navy in a while, but its a fun course. I just played skylinks a few days ago. Fairways are tight, dormant and running pretty fast. Greens are also fast as well. I rate them as follows:

1. Navy/Skylinks

2. Big Rec, Long Beach

3. El Dorado

4. Mile Square

A lot of this depends on where you want to play. There are so many good courses. Navy Destroyer is good also Admiral Baker North is a good one for $40. Carlton Oaks is good, one of the toughest in the area and its less than $60. Steele Canyon, Salt Creek, Barona are all good options. If you need an extra player let me know haha

Sorry to thread jack. It's 15 degrees here in NJ and it won't be above freezing for at least another week. Maybe you can have some sympathy for me.

I am going to be flying into LAX the day I am looking to play Navy Destroyer. I am meeting a friend in LA and we were going to try to squeeze in a round on the way from LAX down to Carlsbad. I plan on walking on Torrey the following day with one of the first tee times. I think Navy Destroyer is the way to go as it is 35 minutes without traffic mid day from LAX and only about an hour to Carlsbad if we can time it to miss most of rush hour traffic.

Thanks, I played Navy last year and it was serviceable for what I am looking for. A decent low cost course on the way to Carlsbad that will cut down some of the drive time.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
