FCWT' are around 250 - 300, depending on which tournament... Not including travel and lodging costs. Only participate in these if you are maybe a 6 or below.

Don't go by your handicap to decide whether you should play in them. I have never even thought of my handicap when playing golf tournaments. Your handicap means nothing in them. It's all about how you playing in tournament pressure.

If you have the money, go play, it will never hurt to get tournament experience under your belt.

That's unreal expensive isn't it? Over here ours are like $50 maximum for the big big events

Its expensive, yet they are among the only criteria that college coaches look at when recruiting players.

Titleist TSR3 9* w/ GD UB-6 (S)
Titleist TSR2 15* & 21* w/ GD UB-7,8 (S)
Titleist u505 22* w/ Atmos Blue HB 85 (S)
Titleist T200/150 5-PW w/ Steelfiber i110 (S)

alright, if i want to play college golf, at what age should i start doing AJGA tournamnets? and how many a year?

thanks

You could start anytime but to actually compete you have to be able to shoot in the low 70's high 60's consistently. The tournaments are great experiences but a waste of $200 if you can't compete. The most amount of tournaments the AJGA will allow you to compete in is 5 per year.

Not everyone can compete in those tournaments everytime.... Some kids take top 50% every tournament but gain 2 stars everytime. It's not a waste if you can't compete because this tour is the only tour that matter to big colleges.

While it is entirely doable, when you get down to the point where your handicap is better than most (and a 4 definitely puts you there) it is harder to lose those strokes. I dropped from a 20 to an 11 in one year (9 strokes), and 11 to a 5 the next (6 strokes) but have only gone from a 5 to about a 3 in the past year, and I am probably practicing and working with my swing coach more now than when I made the biggger drops.

As for when to start AJGA events, I don't think there is a time that is too soon if you can afford it. Since the area where I live only sees one tournament a year (AJGA or FCWT) it isn't financially possible for me to travel and play in them. The amount that I would spend to travel to one AJGA event (about $1200) would probably be about the same amount that i spent traveling playing our state junior events this summer (about 7 in all). If you live in an area where the AJGA or FCWT stops so that you don't have to pay for airfare, definitely play in one or two a year. I think the experience would be invaluable.

To play big time D1 college golf you need to play in AJGA. It is very rare that someone will get money for a D1 school with only state tournaments on their resume. If you are good enough for the AJGA by all means go play in a qualifer, or a preseason get some exemptions then do some traveling and get noticed by college coaches.
