Trolleys at the Old Course - limited use at times.

Maybe common knowledge to many or most, but caught me by surprise and completely missed this in all my research the past many months.

The use of trolleys on the Old Course is more limited. With 14 holes played to double greens, the movement of golfers is severely restricted and we therefore have to take special care to manage wear and tear on this very special course. Trolleys on the Old Course are therefore only permitted after 12 noon between the months of April and October - we recommend that you either carry your own golf bag or employ the services of a local caddie who will not only carry your bag but will also help guide you round the course.

With an early morning tee time, I'd assumed we'd just get push/pull carts and off we go. Don't mind carrying my bag, but now looking at caddies for at least 2 of our other 3 golfers, so better get on with reserving them. Hadn't planned on using them, or the expense, but certainly not going to complain.

Just putting this out there in case others made the same mistake I did by not checking that out more carefully on the website.

I think this policy may also be intended to encourage the use of caddies, which is vital to keeping the caddie program healthy. When I've been there, they've had a big group of caddies available, whether you had made advance plans or not.

No doubt and thanks for the reassurance.

The oldest daughter and I, who are the golfers, in every passionate sense of the word, had planned on using our Sunday afternoon time walking the course as a time to study the yardage books, try and get a feel for the course and really soak it all in and treat the round as an adventure and keep it more of a family thing (wife will enjoy playing but not going to get strategic about it, lol). Hopefully my dad can go and if so I think I'd hire a caddy for him, but right now he really can't make that decision until about 60 days out (can't have him wait until a week out because I've got a couple other family members who would have the ability to get over and play if they want to make the time and I think they would but will need some advance notice).
