Masters Road Trip Questions

A buddy and I are going South for a lot of golf, beer and some Masters hopefully in the beginning of April from Michigan. We are looking to play some great courses so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated, even if its a little off the beaten path if its worth the trek...... but here is the game plan.

3/30 1st night drive to Sweentens Cove outside Chatty TN wake up and play 36 all day..... hang out a little and see if we can get on Lookout Mountain and/or Honors the next early morning but if not keep it moving.

3/31-4/1 Next is either go hit Huntsville and the RTJ north eastern most spot Hampton Cove for 36 on Easter OR Head to Atlanta ?? Play a few courses

4/2-4/4 Next we want to go see a practice round at The Masters and see Augusta and possibly play a round somewhere if its worth it

4/5 From there we want to head to possibly Hilton Head/Beaufort area depending on recommendations or just head to Charleston??

4/6 - 4/9 Next head to Myrtle Beach area or start heading North to places like Tobacco Road or the like heading back to Michigan hopefully hitting Moraine and NCR on 4/8 as the last stop and back to Mich. by April 9

If you have any ideas or something we should really see while we are in your neighborhood let us know thanks!

1. Your not going to get on the Honors.

2. You do know that sweetens is only a 9 hole course. So, you'd play it 4 times. And by hang out, do you mean sitting in the parking lot?

Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

Have to agree on #1. I live in Chattanooga, know people who work at the Honors and can’t even sniff an invite to play on the Caddy day.

#2 I grew up in the same area of Sweetens Cove, they ain’t a dang thing to do in that area. I would recommend play 18 at the Cove and then head towards Chattanooga and either play Canyon Ridge on the Georgia side of Lookout or Nob North in the Dalton GA area. Both would set you up to get closer to either RTJ or ATL for your next day of golf.

Was lucky enough to play Honors Course several times in the 2000s. Member I played with was a national member that told me once he could get guests on without him being there if he called it in and guest paid the fee(said he thought it was $250). Don't know if its true or not. Unfortunately he passed away and I miss him and the Honors invites.

You should go to Reynolds lake O’Connee about 45 minutes west of Augusta. They have 6 courses of which 5 are public and the courses are all unique. Many play as close to August as you’ll ever get. Cost is around $100 a round per person but worth every penny, trust me!

1. Highly doubt there's tee times available.

2. $100? Try $200+ per round during masters week

I would agree with above about lake Oconee. I dated a girl who's father worked for Reynolds and masters week tee times were booked well in advance. I never was able to get out there during that time, which sucked because that was always my spring break week. But, I agree it's a great place with fantastic courses. I would at least give them a call. Also, lived in Augusta and around masters week all course fees went up substantially. Oconee was no different. Best of luck and safe travels.

Fields Ferry is a really nice public course on your route down 75.

It’s in Calhoun.

I just tool a look and there are quite a few tee times available for Master's week. I believe you need to be a guest on property (Ritz Carlton or National Cottages) to play that week and I believe most require a 2-3 night minimum.

We did a trip last year stayed and played in hilton head area, then drove up for masters. Maybe the time of year but really wasn't impressed with any of the courses. We didn't play harbour town though. RTJ courses in Huntsville are pretty good, espically for the price. I have a friend that plays the member guest at honnors every year, hear is unbelivable.

honors is doable;a good round for me in chattanooga would be lookout/honors/blackcreek

as far as playing near masters, i suggest savannah lakes; good course and value during masters week

palmetto opens up that week in aiken; i believe it's 500 per person that week; i know a member there and a total blast from the past.

We are headed back north now from a great trip. We did 27 Holes at Sweetens (our favorite course) had to go watch Michy win the Semifinal in Chattanooga.... which btw was very impressive as a cool little town to have a beer in. Played Lookout Mtn. next morning and then played Governors Towne Club. Went to Mondays Masters practice round. Played Santee National otw to Charleston. Did CCC and Wild Dunes Links the next day. Then hit Bulls Bay .... fantastic club. Next went and played Dormie Club and Talamore. Watch Masters all day Saturday at The Duece ....Played Pinehurst #8 and our second favorite Tobacco Road (so sweet) and ended the trip with Pinehurst #2

Will be back for those other Strantz designs the two we played were awesome! Great suggestion!

If you go back to the Myrtle Beach area, I highly Highly HIGHLY recommend going to Art Burger to eat. Stellar. Best burgers I've ever had.
