TPC Myrtle Beach

Recommended Posts

We played TPC Myrtle Beach yesterday. Now to point out on thing first hand it is actually in Murrells Inlet SC which is 13 miles south of Myrtle Beach

Now the course is only 2 miles from my house and having lived down here 18 years I have never played it. Every time I have planned to play it I have been rained out. We finally got to play it yesterday and frankly I can not see what all the hooplaw is about it. Now in the face of being fair and honest I will concur that we have had quite a bit of rain lately. I will give all of the staff credit they are polite to a scale of 10 on a 10 scale. Most helpful no quams there.

I will give them credit for a superb practice area too. Now the new Dustin Johnson Golf School they are building does not seem to be as impressive to me as I have been led to believe but I am open on that being it is still under construction. The practice putting greens were great but it ended there. The greens on the course were horrible hardly any grass on most and hard as a concrete parking lot. The other part was they were cart path only which made no sense. In fact several of the staff remarked that it did not need to be but they could not get in touch with someone in authority with the greens staff. That in itself is gross mismanagement. They would not give my friend a handicapped flag because of it being CPO. The cart paths in general were horrible busted all up. I mean you could expect to see that at a mid tier or lower tier course. Two of us were on the Prime Times card but were still charged the full tier prime times price which I think was $48 which was a ripoff IMHO. IMHO the overall experience suggests at this time that the place was certainly over priced for the conditions. I would expect these conditions and BS for $25--- And the overall lay out I do not see what all the hooplah is about either and I have played other TPC courses including Sawgrass.

One of the staff did ask us how it was and I sorta chopped down on him and basically told him that I had lived here 18 years and had never played that course and If I lived here 18 more I would never play it again. Here I would like to apologize to him because I was really steamed and it was hot and humid and I know it was not his fault.

I did ride over to my home course Indian Wells and that course was in 10 times better shape than TPC and it has had the same weather and amount of play lately. Now to be fair the cart paths at the Wells as we call it are in bad shape and have been so for years even before the Founders Group bought it. But the course is in 10 times better shape than TPC and it is a mid tier course. Rode over early this Am to International which is about a mile from TPC and it is in better shape overall than TPC.

IMHO overall TPC is over rated sorry guys but that is how I see it---- But I am not in despair I have some 20 other courses I can play on my Prime Times thing and I am also a member of the Mystical and Glens groups too. All the members of my group were locals and they feel the same way I do and say they will never play there again. I figured I would in the interest of honest and fairness post this for all of the out of towners. Yep TPC Myrtle Beach is grossly over rated
