I only do it if I have to. I'm not afraid of doing it, its just that it is a very low percentage shot as in the new drivers, the sweet spot is much higher in the clubface, it is very easy to the top the ball so u need a good lie, and u've got to still have ur warranty on the club :shout:. U've also got to think about, is it worth it, can i get it there with another club, do i have to go for it, and if i miss how bad can it be.

Saying that, I used it yesterday on a par 5. I'd gotten into trouble off the tee, and my only shot out from the trees was to another fairway. Didn't make to the fairway and had a tree in front of me. Pulled driver, nailed it, it drew a little, when i thought it would fade a little, and ended up in a greenside bunker. Made par. I thought that the risk for the reward in this case was worth the shot as i would have had to hit another punch shot out and left myself with a good 140-100m left to the hole.

I have a 460cc Sasquatch and tried hitting my driver off the deck the other day just for the heck of it. I did see a piece on the golf channel saying that you should hit it approx. one ball behind your normal tee'd up driver shot and aim left of the target since the ball will go low and leak right. Tried it and worked like a charm....low and long, and did leak right. Going to use it again.

I like doing it just to show off. I have done if with other reasons. I get about 20 more yards then my 3 wood and if there is wind then there is no contest. I just aim left and move ball back a bit and let er rip. It is a different feeling then hitting from tee thats for sure. Sure is awesome to do. I had a long par 5 where I used 2 iron off tee and had 310 to green and I hit my next shot in the water. I was playing a buck a hole and decided f**k this I am going to just rip my driver up there from my drop shot from fairway. balled rolled up on front of green and i sunk the put. He birdied so I still lost the whole but at least it was with style. How many times in a row could I do that? Probably 2 out of 10 if that so it isn't something I do often unless needed.

For some reason, I'm more consistent with it then I am a 3-wood. I hit this about 245-250 on average, only around 10-15 yards shorter than an average drive. It's extremley reliable, as I hit it solid 90% of the time. The only time I don't try it is if I have a really tight lie. My dad always says "I don't know how the hell you do that", and I don't know either. It's helped me drop my handicap from a 6 to a 5 recently because I can get to par 5's in two.

Ill often do it on long par 5s that i cant reach in two. Its also great to try when its sitting up in the rough, alot easier to hit. All you got to do is practice and itll come eventually, iv played a couple of rounds where i didnt let myself use a tee and hit it off the deck on every hole. Youll mess a couple up to start with but youll get it eventually!

I've got the shot in my bag, but it RARELY comes out. It is nice to know that if i need it, its there. I have always found that the easiest way to hit driver of the deck is aim left and put a fairly significant cut swing on it. If your looking to try this shot, try what i said you might be surprised!

I can do it, but what is the point? I don't think I have ever been in a situation where I said, "Gosh I really need to hit driver here to hit the green." IMO if you are in that situation then lay up.

i tried it earlier today. it didn't turn out too well :)

i've had my new clubs less than a week, and i'm still not used to a graphite shaft in my driver.

get awesome distance off the tee, but i was so afraid of breaking the shaft that to say i topped it is an understatement. i think i got maybe 30 feet out of it.

i will do it when i absolutely have to! but if im honest sometimes it does not turn out great! in fact pretty shocking! ive seen els and more recently monty do it and i cant believe the height they get! im not using a particularly deep faced driver and i can barely get it to tree height! a great shot to have if your good enough which i would love to be!

Definitely a nice shot to have in the bag. I actually practice this at the range about twice a month - just make sure i can still do it ). Great for best ball fundraiser tournaments where you haven't played with a partner or two - execute well and they think you're a god :man_in_love:. Seriously, though, I do think it's valuable to have. 1) it keeps the ball low and out of wind 2) I've never had trouble getting the ball into the air so that's not an issue 3) if it's a slightly unreachable par-5 with no water or OB danger around, why not? Best case = nail it to a nice little fade that runs forever; worst case= top the ball a bit and it runs about 180 anyways, so you've basically just laid up. OK, so worst-worst case is a complete shank or something like that. But just swing easy and go for a slight fade.

I do this but only for trouble shots. Since I dumped my 1 iron and went with a fairway wood and hybrid I don't have anything else I can hit low for punch shots. As other people have noted, the sweetspot in modern drivers is pretty high up the face, so unless you are really skilled, it is hard to get the ball airborne off the deck.

I play in the Northwest and there are many tree-lined courses and unfortunately, I find myself behind them far too often. In those cases, I use my Rapture off the deck and I can keep it no more than 5 feet off the ground and hit it about 175.
