Who putts with an upright lie putter?

Question for all the up righters......

Is there ball pretty much under your eye? I have a hard time imagining putting with the ball further away from you and having an upright lie

I don't have much of a problem if the ball is 1-2" above my eye-line with most putters. Most of my putters are directly under my eye, but I have one I'm working with that fitters caution about marking up and messing up it's paint job when I ask for bending. It's 0.5* too flat. Because of that, I haven't changed it but I'm not finding it bad to use.

I can't imagine too many people are 70* (20* from vertical for PING) with a 35" putter and still have the ball directly under their eyes.

A question for anyone who has adjusted their putter lie angle to anything approaching 80 degrees - how did you manage to do this and was there any downside (loss of balance etc)?

Mine was a Ping, can't remember the exact model, Anser variant with a fairly long plumber neck. At the time there was a repair guy at a local golf store (long since out of business) who was willing to stick it in his loft/lie machine and keep bending until he got it where I wanted.

It was a face balance putter before bending and afterwards it had a bit of negative toe-hang (i.e. balanced with the toe slightly up) but I couldn't feel any difference in the balance.

I used that putter for a couple years back then but eventually moved on. Never did find anyone else who would bend 'em like that so nowadays I just putt with the toe hanging down like Steve Stricker used to do.
