need some drills to do so that i can keep my shoulders back on the downswing as i have a tendency to move my shoulders and hips at same time,

I now believe that one should move the hips and shoulders at the same time.

 

Here is a video lesson that shows how moving the right shoulder down towards the ball can activate the left hip clearing action.

sorry, i didnt explain this very well. halfway down my downswing when my left arm is paralell to the ground my head is infront of the ball and my right shoulder seems really high. cheers

i've just been working on this myself. the problem might not be exactly what your shoulders are doing, but that you aren't staying down on the ball long enough throught the swing. if you are coming up and out of it a bit, your shoulders will seem like they are too far forward at impact. you'll also feel like you aren't hitting against a firm enough front side in all kinds of ways. if you try harder to feel that your head is low and steady as your upper body turns back, you might feel more of what you are after, with respect to the shoulders. as a bonus, you'll also keep a better spine angle thought impact, and should notice that your yardages become more consistent.

 

hope this helps. let me know if you try it, and what you find, since i am interested in this issue with the swing.

ps if you feel like you are scooping the ball more than you are really releasing the club, this might well be the problem. that is, if your upper body starts to come up too early, you can't get your back forearm over your front though impact, but will have more of a "hold on" kind of swing. hope this is clear; if not, and you want the fuller explanation, i will be glad to answer at greater length.
