2/25/19 - Road closures, incl. Bandon routes

Just a heads up to anyone coming out this way for a Bandon trip - there has been a significant winter storm in the Eugene area, and some portions of I-5 have been closed, as well as a couple routes west toward the coast. Not sure how long the closures will be in effect, but if you're coming into PDX or Eugene in the next couple days, you'll want to check the following site for road conditions:

As of today, the best route to Bandon from Portland is to go west on Hwy 20 from Corvallis to Newport, then south on 101 to Bandon.

 

The two typical routes to the coast (126 from Eugene and 38 from south of Eugene) are closed.

Great post Spud. We had to reroute a couple years ago because Beaver Hill Road from North Bank (cut over from I5 to 101 from NorCal) was closed due to a landslide I presume. It has since been rebuilt. We also called the resort to verify what Google Maps was telling us and they knew exactly how to reroute us as well.

I'm reading about this disabled Amtrak train in Oregon and the 2' of snow and I'm admittedly freaking out a bit. Knowing nothing about Oregon climate or geography, is my trip for next week in danger? I see above that I might have to take a different route driving but how bad is this storm?

Oregon weather changes every 3 hours, could seem like summer by next week.

It's a freak storm for the Eugene area, which normally doesn't see any snow at all, especially this late in the winter. They got 10" in a 24 hour period.

 

Forecasts are back to normal by the weekend, so this should be cleared out by the time you get here. Keep checking the TripCheck site above for latest road conditions.

 

I-5 has reopened, but both hwys west (126 and 38) still have closures.

Update - 2/28/2019:

 

I-5 is open

Hwy 126 from Eugene to Florence is open

Hwy 38 from I-5 S of Cottage Grove to Reedsport is still CLOSED

Hwy 138 from I-5 at Sutherlin to Reedsport is still CLOSED

All highways are back open. Drive carefully!
