Nippon Modus 3 Tour 120 vs KBS Tour V 110 - how similar/different?

Anyone have experience hitting both these shafts in irons, specifically in the stiff flex? On paper, the specs appear to be pretty similar, and I've seen people say the Modus shafts are really smooth like the Tour Vs. My priorities are, in order, (1) dispersion, (2) trajectory, (3) feel, (4) distance.

Background: I've been fit into Tour Vs for a set of irons. Loved them. But, I later learned about Modus being a factory option, and didn't get a chance to compare since I wasn't given the opportunity to hit the Modus shafts (I think because the fitter wants to sell me additional shafts & labor. I don't mind paying for the upgraded shafts if that's the only way to get the performance I need, but if a no-upcharge option is very similar, I may have a decision to make in order to save $$.

For now, my first option is to order the irons with Modus 120 stiff, and see if they give me similar performance to what I saw from Tour V on the launch monitor. If not close, I'd then have the option to pay to switch them out.

The 120s and Tour Vs are on opposite sides of the spectrum.

120 - Soft handle, stiff tip

Tour V - Stiff handle, softer tip

That said, I was fit into 120x's before, but I have the Tour Vs in play now since they were a no-upcharge option with Wilson. Callaway, Hogan, and Wilson were the only manufacturers that I saw where the Tour V's were non-upcharge options.

Here's a breakdown of what I saw between the 2 shafts during my last fitting.

Dispersion: Hard to say since I've never hit the 120s on the course before. I've had 2 rounds with the Tour Vs, and I haven't been too stoked with them apart from the feel. Lots of pulled/blocked shots so far, but I'm trying to convince myself to stick with them for a bit longer since I haven't been able to play much, and my swing feels disgusting.

Trajectory: Tour Vs like to launch high, but the spin is kept pretty low. I didn't have any problems with playing in windy conditions even with the higher launch, but it is tougher to keep the ball from launching too high. The 120s during my fitting launched lower with a touch more spin.

Feel: 120's, but not by much. The Tour Vs feel like a smoother version of the Project X shafts (which I used to play). I guess it depends on what shaft profile you prefer. Neither of these shafts feel harsh in any way.

Distance: Again, hard to say since I've only played the Tour Vs on the course so far. I didn't notice much of a distance change between the 2 shafts during my last fitting. The ball flight to get to that number is just different.

Great write up - thanks! I'm currently gaming DG S300 with a 6i ss of about 86mph and a smooth tempo/transition from a less-than-parallel top position. In the fitting, the objective quickly became to eliminate a two-way miss and lower my spin and launch angles, while still maintaining a good descent angle. The Tour Vs did a nice job of tightening everything up. On paper for the 120s, I like the idea of softer butt (for swing feel, if not impact feel?) and firmer tip (for dispersion), but I know I'll need to hit the 120s to see what they give me.

I'll post results in case it's of any interest.

> Hey @DeeBee30 . I started this thread awhile back when I was looking to move on from the Tour-Vs. The Modus 130 is what has the most similar profile from Nippon compared to the Tour-V.
