Dangerous Backswing Thought?

I need to video myself (does it mean I'm old that I had to resist typing "videotape" myself?) to be sure, but I think I may not be getting much if any separation between my right elbow and my torso on my backswing. Would it be inviting trouble in any way to think specifically about keeping my left elbow away from body as I take the club back?

It may help to think less right arm bicep pull and a little more right tricep extension on the takeaway. Sometimes in a misguided effort to simplify the swing [we] early hinge the right elbow.

For me, when purposely trying to create width, I can easily take the club back on some goofy (usually too-upright) angle, or not turn my shoulders, or not hinge my wrists, or some combo of these.

I would get it on video first, you can have too much connection and not enough.

sounds like it could lead to being too flat in the early stages of the backswing causing your arms to lift to the top and a very laid off position. But....the only way to know for sure is to take video because a feeling that would cause horrible issues with 99.9999% of other players may work for you. If it does work, just be careful and monitor it so it doesn't get out of hand.
