Atlanta Young Professional Membership Options

Hi GolfWRX! I need your help...per usual :)

I am moving to Atlanta - Buckhead area and will be working in the Paces Ferry. I'm 26 years old (27 in November) so looking at the Young Professional / Junior Executive Memberships in the area. I wanted to get input on clubs to join preferably within the 30ish minute drive range from either place (although if a club is that awesome and a little further out I would consider it). Based on research, I have looked into Golf Club of Georgia, Pinetree CC, Clubcorp options and a few other clubs that are slipping my mind.

I am a former Division 1 college golfer, so I would be willing to spend money on quality of club (greens, fairways, practice facilities, etc.) and if the membership has good players that is a bonus.

As far as cost, I am **assuming** ~$5k initiation fee would likely a) be enough to join a quality golf club and b) be the top end of my budget (but still would consider other options if the club was THAT awesome). Monthly dues - I can be flexible depending on initiation / what is included with membership.

Any and all suggestions are extremely appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to help me out!

Some others I would look at:

* CC of Roswell

* Rivermont

* Standard Club

* Horseshoe Bend

* White Columns (club corp)

* Atlanta National (club corp + might be more $$$)

* Indian Hills

* St. Ives

* The Manor (club corp + might be more $$$)

All these are below 10k for under 30ish (i think). I know that Rivermont has a solid community of sub 5 hdcp and is generally in great shape although the surrounding grounds and facilities are pretty dated. One thing to note is that unless you can get out of work around 3:00 these are all hard to get to during the week from Paces Ferry or Buckhead.

Some others maybe able to chime in in case my initiation fee knowledge is out of date.

For a player of your caliber, you should definitely check out Pinetree in Kennesaw (disclosure - I am not a member nor a good player). Very good course conditions (some of the best greens around), lots of good players, and likely right in your sweet spot from a cost standpoint. Plus, a Peach Pass and the Express Lanes up I-75 would make it reasonable from Buckhead/Paces Ferry.

Send a message to Driveandputtmachine. He is a member at Pinetree and can answer any questions, and would likely be very willing to have you out for a preview round.

Thanks for the info! I have heard back from the Membership Directors at GC of Georgia, Pinetree CC, and Horseshoe Bend CC. The GC of Georgia and Horseshoe Bend CC initiation and Dues are fairly similar and Pinetree CC is much more affordable than the other two options. I have pretty much narrowed it down to those options based on distance from home / work are equi-distant and reasonable drives.

Can anyone offer comparison ebtween the 3? Given Pinetree is very affordable, is there an issue getting tee times? They have quite a few quality tournaments there (Georgia Open, State Am, etc.) so the course must be pretty good.

Any thoughts would be super appreciated!

The two best bangs for your buck are going to be Rivermont and Berkeley Hills. Both are good course with strong playing memberships and are priced very competitively.

When I looked at Pinetree ~10 years ago the two reason's I took it off the list was the driving time from the Buckhead area was a bit more than I wanted and their young professional membership didn't allow you to play before early afternoon on the weekends. I don't know if that policy is still in place but that was a deal breaker for me.

Young professional can play any time at Pinetree. I do not have any trouble getting tee times out there, but I do know we are getting close to full. The word has gotten out that Pinetree is the best bang for your buck in Atlanta. The course layout and conditions for the price cannot be beat in Atlanta, and even for 200 dollars a month more it still couldn't be beat. Is the clubhouse in need of some updating? Sure. I didn't join to say I am a member at (insert swanky clubhouse club name here), I joined to play golf at a great course with great conditions with great people. If I wanted swank I would have gone to Indian or Marietta or a few others.

Two Georgia Players of the year and last years Senior Am winner and second place Senior open winner are members.

Our top end club players are some of the best in the State, a few former pros and piles of former college (D-1, 2, and 3) golfers.
