All Ohio WRX Outing Version 3.0

Yeah, I saw those too after I sent this. I am kinda hampered with the Cleveland thing because I don't live around there either so they are all new to me. I live over by Youngstown and I know some great courses around here and places that I think I wouldn't mind driving two or three hours to play but it's also on the extreme east border with PA and might be a little too far east for you guys coming from Columbus or further West. I have that day off work for sure, so I will be golfing. I don't really care where at this point and I don't mind traveling. If anybody else has a course more central that would be fun to play I am all for it. We only have a foursome from WRX so it shouldn't be too hard to get a time. The other guys were people I played with occasionally in a travel group.

The courses near Youngstown that I would choose:

The Links at Firestone Farms....Columbiana, OH

Kensington...Canfield, OH

Olde Stonewall...Elwood City, PA.....expensive and further east but its a hell of a course

Or if we just want to try something in October I am OK with that too.

The Virtues (Longaberger) is about an hour east of Columbus and Apple Valley is about halfway between Columbus and Akron if we want to go for something more central.

What about Chippewa in Doylestown? Deer ridge in Bellville?

Deer ridge is a good golf course. Some friends of mine played it recently and said it was in good shape. Apple valley is in great shape. Virtues is always good.

I’m fine with waiting till October. We could probably get a tee time about anywhere at that time

I'm still up for playing on 9/14 wherever. I already have the date on the calendar, kids situated, etc.

Same here. I will play any of those courses. I got a free pass on that day so I can do pretty much whatever and that doesn't happen too often.

I took a look at tee times on those courses (anything later in the day seems pretty open):

 

-The Virtues has 9:20 and 9:30.

 

-Apple Valley has 9:28 and 11:00.

 

-Deer Ridge has 9:50.

 

-Chippewa doesn't seem to have tee times available that far out.

 

 

I've played Apple Valley before, so I'd be more interested in playing The Virtues or otherwise.

I’m definitely in. Virtues is 20 minutes away from me. Apple valley is an hour and deer ridge is an hour and a half. I’m in.

I want to play Virtues as well. Any tee time works for me but it is a 2:30 minute drive so nothing too early. I would honestly prefer something closer to lunch time if you guys don't mind but I can make those times work if I needed to.

After that 9:30 there isn't anything open until 1:40 or later.

I’m sorry everyone I’m not going to be able to play this Saturday. Unfortunately I’m going to have to work. Someone left unexpectedly and I won’t be able to fill their position quick enough for this weekend. I apologize and hope everyone can find another player

Do we still want to do this with two players. I would hate for it to be busy and end up playing as a twosome and waiting on every shot surrounded by foursomes. I have asked a few people and nobody can really get free to go to fill out the group.

Yeah, I checked in with a few people as well and no luck.

 

I'm still up for playing though - my wife and I are planning to stay the night in the area afterward and we have plans Sunday.

 

Want me to check to see if there is an alternate tee time where we could join up with a twosome?

That's fine with me. I don't mind playing with a twosome. If the course isn't packed i don't mind playing in a smaller group either. I am open to other tee times as well so if it's convenient for you to play earlier, I can. Just nothing before 9AM. DM me if something changes.

@Hellstorm and I played The Virtues (formerly Longaberger) on Saturday.

 

Beautiful course. We couldn't make any putts, but the course was in good shape, pace of play was pretty decent, and the layout was challenging but fair.

 

I'll definitely be making my way back there in the future.

Yes. I really enjoyed it except for 3 putting every hole. I'm not sure why it was so tough to putt. I really think the speed related to the grain of the grass was way different than what I was used to. The downhills were disproportionately fast and the uphills the opposite. I would definitely play there again though. It was a great course.
