Groin Pain when Walking (Sartorius/Hip Flexor Strain)

Yes, I have no pain in my hip itself, just down in the groin on the inside of the left leg, near where the leg meets the rest of the body.

Thanks everyone. My MRI is Monday and should get the results soon afterwards. I will let everyone know what the diagnosis is in case there is anyone in the future who has similar symptoms.

For those interested, the MRI results showed a "Severe fraying of the anterior labrum without definite chondral labal separation." So, sounds like a badly frayed, not torn labrum in my left hip. My plan is to continue Physical Therapy through the winter and into next year and use the 2020 golf season as a sort of experiment. If I am able to get through pain free, I don't think surgery is necessary, but if not, I may opt to have a surgeon go in and clean out the fraying in the hip (I believe this is called debridement?) next off-season. But, for the time being, it looks like no running or high-intensity activities, and likely will be using a cart and not walking the golf course at least in the short-term.

Anyone else dealt with this sort of thing before?

Hey - so i've posted a bunch in here. I've torn both Labrums and was diagnosed with FAI - Cam type - this is theoretically a small bone spur on the femoral head that when the hip is flexed can tear the labrum as there is bone on bone contact between the femoral head and pelvic bone. I will admit it was painful. But with FAI - at 47 i'm considered too old for surgury on the bone - and the results for people with this issue the result are pretty awful anyway. For me - the hip capsul was very tight. If you have labrum tears you likely have a tight capsul too. These are the ligaments in the back of the hip socket. There are likely to be tight hip muscles along with trigger points in the muscles - while these are unlike to be the cause of your issues treating them will help a lot. PT - find someone good (i've gone thru 6 and several of them were very good but unfortunately a couple moved), you'll likely need to make space in the capsul, and strengthen the hip rotaters and psoas. I never had surgury to fix the tears. For me - making space in the capsul was necessary and since the femoral head was basically anterior in the socket (at the front) strengthening the small rotators was helpful - they attach to the back for the femoral head so strengthening those muscles will pull the femoral head back into the capsul. I've also had accupuncture on the trigger points.

when everything was back to functioning well enough i considered surgery to repair the labrum - as sort of the last 10%. I wound up having PRP instead a decision i've been very happy with.

If you need to you might consider seeing an orthapedic doctor that doesn't do surgury. They are called physiatrist's.

i remember the day i really tore the labrum - while it was likely gradual over time, i was doing deadlifts and when i was done i knew something was really wrong. i was super fit at the time, crossfit 3xs a week, i have tried to go back a few times but just realized it might not be a great idea. With that said i do ride bikes, ski, sit in cars and golf with out any pain.

i hope that helps
