Ever got hit by one?

[nuthin but a hacker]

2 years ago my daughter was playing in a 2-day tournament. The course is right next to a high school and the band was practicing so the entire first round was filled with loud noise. 2nd day, she’s on the practice putting green which is located directly next to #9 green, only being separated by the cart path. An older guy was hitting his approach shot to #9 green and hooked it pretty bad right into the kids on the practice green. The ball catches my daughter right under the left eye. She comes running up to me crying and in shock. Her glasses are bent and a huge knot has come up where she was hit. We get her calmed down and put ice on the bump. We kept going back and forth on what to do. She still wanted to play but her eye was puffy. I thought we should have went straight to the ER to get checked. The golf course employees and the guy that hit her were in full panic mode. I could tell the guy was sick over what happened. She waited for an hour and the tournament folks pushed her back into the last group to see if she could go out. We determined she was ok other than swelling so she went out and played the final round with one eye. I was her caddy so I kept a close eye on her. She ended up in 4th place and we took her straight to the ER from the course. The doctors checked her eye out and determined it was ok. She would just have a very ugly black eye and a crazy story to go with it. They said if you are going to get hit in the face with a golf ball, she got hit in the best place. Bad thing was this was the day before her regional match for high school and the next day her eye was pretty much swollen shut.

I have not been hit, in 15-20 years years of seasonal weekend golf, but two balls came close enough that I could hear them fly.
