Lamkin Torsion Control Tour or Golf Pride Multicompound
Hey guys, I'm looking for some feedback on some grips. Currently I play Golf Pride multicompounds on my irons. I've been pretty happy with these grips. I like the feel of them, they seem nice and thin and I just feel confident when gripping the club. I really like having the cord section up top too. The only complaint I have is the colored rubber section just doesn't wear all that well. The local golf shop is now charging $10 each for these and I just can't justify paying that much for them. So I was thinking I'd pick some up during the golfsmith friends and family sale. Well I was on there browsing and came across the Lamkin Torsion Control Tour grips and now I'm a little interested in them. Has anyone tried both of these grips? I'm wondering how the lamkin compares in thickness and feel. Is it tacky feeling like the multicompounds? How does the lamkin hold up over time? Thanks guys!

Well, I've got bad news and bad news. First of all, all Golfpride and Lamkin products are exempt from the friends and family sale, so no luck there. Next - the torsion control grips aren't very similar at all to the multicompounds. They feel kindof like if winn wanted to do a cord type, I wasn't impressed. I know your problem from the multis, the red part starts to feel waxy after very little time at all, so I switched to the red cord lamkins, and they have been a dream. They aren't as rigid as most cords, and you can get them in .580 or .600 with one of those in ribbed if you wish.

If I were you, I would grip a few clubs with a few different grips, hit the range and decide. I learned the hard way that its easier to replace 2 grips that you dont like than it is to replace 13 (easier on the wallet I mean)

Thanks for the reply belote! None of the local places have the lamkin torsion control regular or tour grips so I've never seen them in person. I'm not a big fan of the winn grips so I'll probably steer clear of the torsion control grip. Your right about the red part on the multicompounds, it does get kind of waxy pretty quickly. I've cleaned them up and hit them with sandpaper several times to try to get that tacky feeling back. It seems to come back some but never to where it was when you first put them on.

I like the cord under my glove hand but not so much under my right hand. I'm tempted to say screw it and just buy good old tour velvets from TGW for $2 each. You can't beat that price. I've played them on my wedges since they come stock on the clevelands and x tours and liked them but never tried them on my irons.

I tried the torsion control and the mutlicompound wins hands down!

You may also consider Sharpro grips which are about $3 per grip cheaper.

And oh yeah...do your own grips. Saves a lot of money.

I just picked up a set with Torsion Controls after playing with Red Multi-Compounds for a couple years. I am actually very happy with the performance of the Torsion Control grips!! The torsion bars give a unique feel, and the grip is in no way soft and mushy like a Winn grip! I am considering trying the Torsion Control Tours, and I still have the Multi Compounds on my woods and wedges. The jury is still out (Only 3 rounds with the Torsion Controls), but they certainly look promising!

I've played both and prefer the Torsion Controls. That's what I have now and am not switching at any time in the near future. I disagree about them being like Winns. I hate Winns and these are NOT soft like a Winn at all. But, if you like the thin feel of the MCs, be aware the TCs do feel thick. But very stable, even when wet. And they wear better, in my experience.
