G410 with heavier shaft (DG S300/KBS Tour/PX) experience?

I'm not playing as much and I'm considering going to a more forgiving iron. I've tried the G410 in the simulator and outside with their AMT shafts. I had i15 years ago that also came with a lightweight shaft and I put DG S300 in them. Lightweight shafts simply launch the ball so high and they spin so much for me I actually lose a club of distance even with strong lofted irons. Anyone else experience this and have experience with heavier shafts in G400 or G410 irons? Thinking of a combo set of G410 and I210. I just want to make sure there's not a downside. Thanks.

Assuming you’re a decent golfer, I’d just go i210. I’ve hit GI clubs with stiffer/heavier shafts and the combo hasn’t worked well for me. I think the i210 are VERY forgiving irons. Even if you’re over a 15 I’d say they’re fine. Feel GI to me.

I currently play off a 7 index. My primary issue has been my iron play. When playing/practicing a good amount I'll generally range between a 3 and 5 index. But my primary weakness is still and has always been my iron play. I'll have spells of very good iron play, but it's always been a come and go thing.

If you search around the forum and read some of the 410 threads you will come across a few low handicap guys using GI irons like 410's along with DG shafts. A great combo for a strong player that isn't overcome by ego factors.

You must be fun at parties. Anybody who isn’t a weekend hack could hit the i210. Further to that there is a reason the stock shafts in the i210 are heavier than the g410. I’m asking the guy what standard he plays to as there is enough MOI and help in the i series for anybody who can hit somewhere that has grooves.

I'm a weekend hack that been a single digit handicap for decades and I greatly prefer full size GI irons. I've played everything from blades to GI so please don't preach and tell people what clubs they should play based on your opinion.

I’m a single digit handicap that doesn’t get along well with the I210. Love the G410 irons, although I haven’t played them with anything other than the AWT shafts.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I do like the i210. It looks great and it feels great. But while they're relatively forgiving, I don't find them to be much more forgiving than my Bridgestones.

Truthfully, the G410 is the first true GI iron I've seen that looks really darn good at address. Offset and topline aren't bad. My primary purpose for doing this is for that extra margin for error. If I pick up a little distance and I'd expect to just based on lofts alone then even better. My thinking was to do i210 in the 9 iron and wedge. Those are the only 2 clubs in the G410 set that I really struggle to look at. And I don't really need the extra forgiveness in those clubs.

I'll definitely look around the G410 threads. I was able to try one in a simulator today with the DG shaft in it and it performed pretty well. I'm going back to test the KBS and the PX this week.

OP literally asked about both clubs. It's not like he asked only about the G and I came in and said "no that's crap you need to get i". Both are nice clubs, I just think that the i210 is a progressive set and has a lot of help in the long end. You're overreacting to what I said.

OP - I don't think there is a downside to playing the G410 with heavy shafts. It's worth hitting them both in the long end (even with tape) to see which you like. Are you able to test the club with that shaft at all? When you say you tried it previously was it the Nippon AWT 2.0 shaft you hit?

I tried the g410 irons with project x and while they looked and performed great I ended up with Mizuno 919 Hotmetals with Project X. Both were very similar results wise for me while demoing, but I ultimately went with Mizuno because of less bounce.
