Hybrid Clubs

With a very large quantity of various clubs available who has at least 1 hybrid club in the bag and under what situation do you use it?

I as many people probably do I use it if my drive finishes in the second cut off the fairway. I also use it off the tee at two of the par 3's at my club which are both in excess of 200 yards. I was having trouble with it when I started to use it, in that I was getting plenty of height and poor distance. I asked one of the club pro's to have a look and detect the problem. After only one shot he said to me your downswing is to steep stop using it like lob wedge and. I just couldn't believe what I was doing but, I know for sure that it has helped my game. Just be interested to see if anyone else had problems like that.

I have the Ping G10 Hybrid, 18*. When I "Catch It", it really gets out there but I'm inconsistant with it. I think my problem is ball position. I may be playing it too far forward. The guy who fit me said to play the ball back a little and pull the trigger. He hits his 19* 245 yards. (For Me...Not in my Wildest Dreams). I would be extremely happy with 190 yards! :)

I bought the original Nickent Genex 20* & 23* hybrids when they came out about 3 yrs ago. These replaced my 3 & 4 irons. They came with steel shafts but, as they seemed to harsh, I traded them in for graphite shafts. My home course has a couple 150 to 190 yard shots over water and I was constantly mishitting my 3 & 4 irons into that water. The hybrids have helped 'almost' eliminate that problem. I play them very much like a FW in relation to where I put the ball in my stance and feel like I can swing nice and easy and still get the ball in the air. I think thats the key. I recently purchased a 14* hybrid to use when I need to hit a low shot under a tree limb or into the wind. It was on sale cheap and I got it thinking it was probably a waste of $ but It's been easy to hit and has done what I bought it to do. I seldon hit hybrids off a par 4/5 tee as I have more confidence in my driver or 3W. I'm getting ready to upgrade to G10 irons and am considering going with a 4th hybrid to replace my 5 iron. Anything to make this game easier.

Tried a variety of hybrids, just can't seem to hit them I have a 9 wood that works really well for 185-195yds. Am trying to work in a 7 wood but the one I have now needs a different shaft. Something about a fairway wood is easier for me to hit. Probably all psychological, but half the game is 90% mental anyway.

My hybrid is my 190 club plain and simple my three iron if you will

But then I love this club I can do so much with it

Yesterday from thin dead what I call mud rough like hitting off straw on the mud

I had about a 160 yd shot into the wind from this nasty lie

I choked the hybrid about two inches put my little cut swing on it and hit it right in the middle of the green

Six holes later I cranked it 195 to a par three yes I love that club

I just ordered the components for the Snake Eyes 3W/18º, 4W/31º, 5W/24º and will be receiving them next week. Once I assemble them, I probably won't get a chance to use them until the end of May - a long wait. I'm hoping to "get over" the appearance of hybrids this year; it's been a negative visual/mental thing for me - hard to accept the small size. I'll have to commit to them in order to use them, but with the positive comments from everyone, they have (???) to improve my game once I learn how to use them. At least that's the plan.

How many have had problems accepting the look of hybrids and learning how to use them?

AAL;
I'm a decent golfer, 7 HC, but the way I hit ( I should say mishit ) my 3 & 4 irons, I knew ANYTHING had to be better. They diffently helped me. Sure, it takes awhile to learn how to hit um straight and get confidence in them, but my basic problem was getting the ball up in the air. I played in Kansas City last summer and the starter told us he had made several snake eye hybrids for friends and everyone liked them. They should work for you also.

Thanks for your comments bassman.

I guess I can say that I'm only a halfway golfer with a 15.6 HC, but used to be a 10 HC many years ago. Last year I made up a new set of SE clubs (noted below) and found that I could still hit the 4I reasonably well (~185 yds.), except that I'd lost distance, perhap 15-20 yds from earlier days, yet I still felt comfortable using the 4I.

Unfortunately, this left a hole in my arsenal at the 200 yd. distance. I found that I would have to use the 5W to cover that hole, a club I had difficulty getting consistency. I had trouble hitting both the 5W and 3W off the fairway (long time problem). So, my reasoning for the three Hybrids is to try to get some consistency, confidence, and distance with a reasonable 15-20 yd. spread between the clubs. Hoping to get back to a 10 HC.
