Albany & Troy, NY trip recos

I've got a week long visit in the NY Cap Region, and was hoping to find some good tracks and good guys to play some golf with... any info or invites are always welcome, particularly knowing ill likely only have Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday mornings to play, ALL ADVICE is wanted, dead or alive.

 

I'm a good guy, funny dude, and play off 13, so not likely to learn anything new about golf, but a guaranteed laugh on the 18th green...

No golf recommendations as I didnt golf when I lived up there but if you like good German beer be sure to stop at Wolff's Biergarten! However, Capital Hills in Albany has hosted a Symetra tour event, so its probably worth a look.

I lived in the Albany area for a handful of years and I would recommend Orchard Creek in Altamont, greens are pure and course winds through an active apple orchard. Saratoga Spa Championship course in Saratoga Springs is a really nice old pine tree lined feel, its about 20 mins north of Albany/Troy area. Capital Hills is an ok course in my opinon, I found the front nine to be much nicer than the back nine as some of the holes start to feel like they were forced into the remaining property. Hope this helps.

Second recommendation for Saratoga Spa course, in the state park.  They also have a nice par 3 course.  On the high end, there is also Saratoga National.

okay so, 

 

I'm a muni kid at heart, so in this manner, i usually pick the closest municipal course -- that takes dogs -- as the crow flies from where i'm staying: that's Frear Park in Troy. That's a week from tomorrow with mah gurl and her dog, a badass... 

 

wednesday morning i have more time and flexibility so ima make it over to Orchard Creek in Altamont. looking to start at 9am or earlier, but can start a little later, prolly no later than 11am then...

 

and finally thursday morning (again, a week from, aka October 1), ima head to Capital Hills in Albany...

 

If anyone wants to join me at Orchard or CapHills, I'd welcome the local knowledge, or you can just drop some right in here...

weird discovery, no dogs on the course until the course itself actually closes?! same for Frear Park AND Capital Hills, so I am adjusting my schedule:

CapHills on Tuesday, 29 September, 830am start hopefully...

Saratoga Spa Champ & Par 3, 30 September, 830am start again...

Orchard Creek, 1 October, 8am start...

Scags, Any reviews of the rounds you played?  Hope it all went well!  Former Northern New Yorker with friends in the Saratoga area and we have enjoyed the Spa course the couple of times we played there.  I have not played the other courses you had targeted...

i snuck the dog onto frear park, found a cheap tee time on Golf Now for Mohawk River, and went back with the dog to frear park again. he loved it and couldnt get enough, so we stayed and played close to home...

 

I will say this tho, when trying to book a tee time at the Spa course in Saratoga, the man on the phone was really great, helpful; same as well at orchard creek although non members cant book more than a day in advance...

 

NOT ONCE did i ever get anyone at Capital Hills on the phone, and i called half a dozen or more times, and evidently its the only way to book due to covid... strange.
