Women golfers show no anger, no triumph

Are they "Stepford Golfers" ???
My foursome has 80 years of golfing experience between us and no one has have ever seen a woman lose it over her game, or get charged up for that matter.

Women golfers are like post-treatment homemakers in that movie The Stepford Wives - perfectly polite pod people. They never curse or throw clubs, do a fist pump or celebrate. I've never heard a woman brag about making a great shot, explain away a bad shot or even slam a club back in her bag.

It's kind of scary, like someone syphoned off their adrenaline.

You've been playing with the wrong women.

Are we talking about the women that you play with at your local course? Or the women on the LPGA?

Normally the television coverages, cutaway to a different shot, when the ladies "tee off" when something bad happens. I guess they don't want to taint the image of a pro female golfer. Plus, who really wants to see a woman, act like a guy? Not me.

But....I've seen old footage of Dottie Pepper, and I've seen Suzanne Peterson, just get flaming mad.

I remember watching Julie Inkster and Dottie Mochrie (Pepper) in a pairing when I was a kid......put the fear of women in me, that's for sure.

You definately are playing with a race of "ladies" if you haven't heard or seen any woman get excited or swear or fist pump. Many of my friends are convinced that "Ah S#*t" is a touring teaching pro because he/she is called upon so often. Haven't seen any club throwing, but I and the other women with whom I play regularly are definitely "into" this game. Add a side bet or that it's a tournament and we can each get pretty intense -- even if the side bet is simply for the priviledge of paying for an appropriate adult beverage after the round.

Heh, my wife has gotten angrier on the course than I have. Hit a bad drive (she was admittedly having a rough few days and we shouldn't have been playing golf) and just whipped her driver sideways full-bore. Bounced it off the sidewalk, across another tee box, and almost into a pond. Put a real nice gouge in the finish.

Now she can't ever give me grief when I just drop a club after flubbing a shot. :haha:

Sounds like you should have made sure her grips were clean !! :haha: Noonan!

Complete generalizations. There are aggressive/reserved male golfers, and aggressive/reserved female golfers.

I think that there is definitely a double-standard (if a woman were to go over the top or be a little "too passionate" she might be seen as wild or out of control, whereas SOME men can get away with it.

I never thought I'd be echoing Woody Austin, but he wasn't too far out of line when he said something like that Tiger is always considered intense and aggressive, and guys like him (Woody), who show similar fire and passion are considered loose-cannons.

Withdrew, You are absolutely correct. In my experience, the difference is the volume and violence of the outburst. If the explicative is broadcast loudly enough to be heard two fairways over or even one, it's out of line. If one expresses significant "displeasure" with the shot somewhat sotto voce, your playing partners may raise an eyebrow that a diminutive lady speaks fluent sailor, but you haven't necessarily disrupted the focus and enjoyment of the rest of the course or your foursome. You needn't act as though you are in church, but we should be mindful of the sense and sensibilities of our playing partners. I have found that I play better if I am able to stay relatively calm -- nobody likes to play with someone who is out-of-control... just too distracting, as in what is she/he going to do next. Best to let your clubs do the talking.

In my years playing golf in high school, it is true that I don't remember ever seeing a girl lose her temper over her game-- get frustrated and angry, yeah, but they always held back all the outbursts came from the guys, lol. What they DID do was take out their aggressions on other girls in sly, nasty, backstabbing ways. I'm sure part of it is the age of the girls in question-- no meaner creature than a teenaged girl ;) -- but in general women are trained from an early age to internalize, whereas though it is still frowned upon on the course it is more acceptable for a man to blow up. I think women get just as mad, but it comes out in different ways.
