Using momentum of turn to swing the arms.

Wondering if this is a swing thought that others have used with success?  I shot my personal best of 78 yesterday and broke 80 for the first time in my first round focusing on this swing thought. Basically what I'm trying to explain is that I start my swing with my shoulders, sort of like one piece takeaway, and I feel like I'm using the weight of the club and its momentum from the turn to continue the arms on plane to the top.  In theory, if I turn on the proper angle and let my arms feel relaxed and free, they naturally lift and rotate to the top.  I've noticed the angle of the turn is key.  If I turn too flat I hit pushes, if I turn too steeply I'll hit pulls.  Seems to make sense... In the past I think I have started off the swing ok in the takeaway, but felt a bit too much tension and didnt allow my arms to swing.  When using this swing thought, it really feels like I can keep my hands back as i transition and rotate in the downswing instead of feeling stuck at the top and having to pull the club down with my arms.  Lots of words here... can anyone relate? 

 

Anyone have any good instructional videos that might fit this idea?

Like everything else, works for some, not for others and if it works for you then great.

 

My interest would be in the downswing part:  Do you try to power your downswing with body rotation (e.g. Paul Wilson, Pete Cowen) or do you try to use your arms and perhaps pull down or "snatch" the club? If the former then also powering the backswing with your body would make sense as there doesn't need to be a conscious transition "at the top" FROM the arms powering the backswing TO the body powering the downswing. I think that's what you may be referring to when you mention an easier transition. 

 

I know I HAVE to use body rotation on the downswing (or at least I have to feel as if that's all I use) or I end up hitting "at" the ball with my arms. In particular, I need to try to keep my arms "back" (as you say) as I rotate through.

A forward press onto your left foot and rebound onto your right foot will sync up your legs, arms, torso and joints giving you enough inertia and momentum to complete your back swing.

Love putting a glove under the armpits to practice to feel that sense of body/arm connection and make sure it stays there.

There are videos of Tiger doing this a lot. I think he liked it under the right arm.

You can swing pretty well with just the right hand if the right arm and body are connected.

Daly used to practice one-handed a lot, remember?

That was due to that right arm/body "connection." You almost don't even need the left arm at that point! It's cool.
