Big yardage gaps in my low Irons.....help!!

Since getting my MP-60/MP-32 combos i have noticed big yardage gaps between my 9i, PW, and 52* wedge.

 

These are my yardages.....

 

9i - 150

PW - 130 max

52* - 110 max (use to be 120 with Vokey 52*)

58* - 80 max

 

It is kind of weird because if I hit a 3/4 52* wedge for a 100 yard shot it goes about that....100 yards. But if really try to jump on a 52* wedge it only goes between 105 and 110 yards.....I would think it would go more like 120.

 

Same way with my 58* wedge......if i hit like a 70% shot with my 58 degree wedge it will go like 70 yards.....where as if I hit a full shot with the 58 it only goes 5-10 yards further.....while I am thinking it should go further.

 

And my PW.....there is too big of a gap between it and my 9 iron.......

 

It just seems I am not hitting my PW, 52*, and 58* wedge as far as I should......it seems that I hit them full they are high and weak ball flights if that makes sense......seems the club is just slipping right under the ball and I am not hitting them like I should.

 

Anyone else have this problem as well?

go get the lofts and lies checked.... you will probably be surprised at what you find

As stated...Have you lofts and lie angles checked throughout the entire set...

You should do that at least once a year, especially with forgings...

You hit a fairly similar distance to me and I've been having the same problem with my wedges until I realised that I was not hitting down on the ball. Full shots were high floaters as you describe but now they fly much lower and with more spin.

I would also get your lofts checked. If you have been hitting them on a range you might have bent them weak.

Yes I had this done when I bought the clubs about a month and a half ago.

For me it was concentrating on keeping my hands in front of the ball at impact so the strike was always going to be a downwards one. This is easy on a 3/4 shot but it's easy to get out of sync when hitting harder and have your hands releasing fractionally early so that your release is a bit 'handsy' which produces a very high floaty flight. I don't move the ball back in my stance but just try to keep my left wrist fractionally bowed at impact.

I had the same/similar thing going on. For me, I decided I was just over-swinging on my full swings. If your like me your making much better contact with your 3/4 swings(3/4 for me is arms at 9:00). Try topping out somewhere between your 3/4 and full swing. I truly think ALOT of golfers are victims of diminishing returns from their back swings...trying to get to that "magic" parallel to the ground position.
